Multi-impact protection in lightweight, mountain-bred package.
POC developed the Skull Light Helmet with a semi-hardshell exterior for freeriders who demand multi-impact protection in a lightweight package. With technology inherited from POC's Skull lineup, this helmet features a tapered shell that sits close to the head for a low profile look and feel. A pair of front air vents and a breathable liner help air circulate so no matter how hard you send it in the powder, cliffs, or steeps, you'll stay cool and calm.
- An EPP Core uses expanded polypropylene to provide multi-impact protection that won't deform on impact like EPS
- The soft LD Foam Lining can easily be adjusted for comfort or removed for cleaning
- Removable ear pads keep your ears warm during freezing storm days and detach for hot spring riding

This helmet is a solid product. Fits nice and snug and doesn't look massive on top of your head. Comfortable for long hours on the slopes.

Is the POC Skull Light Helmet compatiable with the Beats NeckRoll?
bad news from POC's website:
Beats neck roll is compatible with Receptor BUG, Receptor +, Receptor Backcountry and all Receptor Pro Models.
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I love this helmet but it is definitely a lot more snug than the Giro that I used to have before this one. There is lack of an additional adjustment so people who are between sizes may be out of luck. The feel is secure and the weight feels just about right. There is a certain heft to the material that makes me feel protected compared to the Styrofoam helmets but it is not really heavy. I like it a lot. I like the matte look but it scuffs easily. I put stickers on mine so it is not an issue for me.

Yikes, I got one of these and it's pushing down my Zeal goggles over my nostrils. How do I keep from suffocating? Are these helmets only compatible with POC goggles.
basically, companies only design their helmets to be "compatible" with their goggles. that doesn't mean you can't wear others, but the venting and brim may not work as well together with the goggles. in your case, it sounds like they just don't fit together and you'd need to change the goggles or helmet. if you like the skull light, there's a skull light II that is more adjustable and may keep your helmet positioned better.

My head is 56.5 cm ... What would be the best size?
The medium would fit best as the large will be too loose. However if you will be wearing a beanie or thicker hat or anything then I would go up to the large.
I measured out just a hair shy of 57cm and the medium was a perfect fit. No beanie or hat needed thus far - the helmet is plenty warm. I have used it between 15F to 55F so far.

Anybody use POC helmets for mtbiking as well and know how the sizing varies? I have a Trabec Race M/L POC helemt for mtbiking and love it, thinking of giving their ski helmets a whirl.
the sizing is different/less adjustable. your trabec race M/L is suggested for a head circumference of 55-58cm. the ski helmets have separate M and L sizes. M fits 55-56, L fits 57-58. better measure your noggin.
Does what's important
I think I was the first guy in CO to wear POC. Hung out with some of their team riders who were amazed a western skier wore their gear. Having said, best I ever had. It's taken a beating - branches, reverse downhill head slams, gaper ski swings at the base - and is still good to go. The shell material is super non-brittle. The fit is tight, the strap is easy to adjust while on, the ear pads uninstall/reinstall quick and easy. Ventilation could be better, 2 thin vents on front only. The goggle clip is adequate. All-in-all, a great buy, especially on this sale.
Love the look but

Does this come with goggle clip on the back of helmet?
Some reviews mentioned that this did not have goggle clip in previous years models.
The goggle clip is not pictured because it comes as a separate piece that clips on from the base of the helmet. Attachment is very secure and works well.
I have yet to ski with this helmet, so I'll just post a comment about fit and look/feel.
I wear a medium in the Smith Variant. With the POC SL, I wear an XL (59cm).
Measure your head. Their measurement chart is accurate to the CM with almost no room to spare. Due to the fact it is a hard shell, there is no means of customizing the fit beyond manually adding padding.
If the shape of your head is on the roundish side, look at another manufacturer. The POC SL is designed to fit oval shaped heads.
The helmet is snug, but not uncomfortable, with thick padding. The chin strap is one of the better designs I've ever seen on a helmet, although it doesn't cinch down as much as I'd like it to.
The best feature are the ear pads. Not only are they easily removed and reinstalled, but they have a deep pocket for your ears. No more of that awful crushed ear feeling at the end of every day. The ear pocket also helps make the helmet feel light as air.
It's a good looking helmet. Simple and stylish. But it isn't small. It's bigger than my old Variant by a good margin - Enough that it barely allows me to pull over the hood on my shell (for those blizzard lift rides). It is a low-profile helmet, that much is true. Low-profile meaning it doesn't rise off the top of your head very far. However, it is wide, very wide. Kind of makes my head look like a watermelon on a tooth pick.
Compared to my old Variant, the build quality of the POC is simply outstanding.

can we get this helmet in black XL?
Hey roz. They will probably have it at some point. Your best bet with inventory questions will be to click on the "Chat Now" link at the top of the page. That will get you in touch with a BC rep.
Just shipped out a bunch of new product from the POC warehouse. You should be good now. :)

How well does this helmet match up with the poc cornea goggle? I'm afraid of gaper gap and I can't find a place to try these both on at the same shop. Help will be appreciated.
This helmet will work great with the Cornea goggle. The Cornea has a wide fit, thereby eliminating the abhorred 'gaper gap', and the Skull Light will snug right up to it.
Just do it
Its super light and low profile design makes it easy to forget your wearing a helmet at all. Right up until you botch that 360. Wearing this helmet is like wearing a beanie that will keep your dome intact, just in case. If like to push yourself and constantly test your limits on the mountan, you can defiantly do it in style with this helmet.
Light, solid and comfortable
Not much else to say. I had the Receptor+, but I like this one a lot better. Lighter and sleeker. Thankfully, I haven't hit anything hard yet.
This one saved my life
I'm here writing this review as this POC helmet saved my life. I hit a tree on a pure random accident by catching an edge in the powder at the wrong moment. I was skiing with the family and not even skiing hard. I took a direct blow to the right side. A couple of broken bones and the body is very bruised up but my head was as if the accident never happened and i hit my head pretty hard. I barely had a headache. Thanks to all at POC! You are a fool not to spend the extra money. Nice bonus... its very warm in bad conditions. I've used this helmet in warm spring days and I've used it in zero degrees with a thirty mile per hour wind. fine in both conditions. LOVE THIS HELMET! And as another bonus, the earmuffs are very comfortable. GO POC!
Gotta love Swedish design. The helmet is great: super lightweight but still super solid feeling and very comfortable in cold and warm temps.
The hard shell of the helmet is minimalist and protects you everywhere that is needed. Other parts of the helmet are constructed from pliable but stiff foam that will keep you safe, comfortable, and warm. The non-shell materials are also snug to keep the helmet from shifting--no need to make the chinstrap ridiculously tight, in other words. Ventilation is smart as well; the vents work well to blow air over your head, keeping your dome dry and cool.
Amazing helmet, totally recommend it.
