Description

Super-convenient hydration.

The zero-BPA Platypus Softbottle can be used over and over again without getting the dirty, musty taste that a lot of hard bottles are known for. It’s also super-light, and can be stored anywhere when empty—just roll it up.

Great for people who wants a compact water bottle. I had doubts about the plastic but so far on 5 trips it has hold

I'm sure this is a really stupid question,...

I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but is this supposed to come with some sort of lid out mouth piece? Mine didn't have one, but I don't read anywhere that one must be bought separately. I thought it was missing, but now that I look at some of the pictures on here, I'm not so sure since it shows the bottle without a top.

There are 3 lid options with these. Closure is a regular cap, push pull is the sports bottle squirt cap and the hyperflow is like the one in the main picture. You can select the lid option with the size option in the drop down box.

This is one water bottle that can go anywhere. It is great for backpacking and travel for obvious reasons. It is also super easy to stuff in a jacket pocket for a short hike or a warm day of spring skiing. The multiple colors make it super easy to keep track of the correct owner(In our house of 5) I no longer have kids coming home from a long day on the slopes parched! Drinking fountains just don't cut it and this bottle makes it easy.

Perfect low volume bottle for a day pack. Small opening makes it a little tricky to fill but not a big issue. Nozzle isn't as easy to drink out of as the bottle needs to be upside down to get water too it but just takes some getting used to or you just squeeze it with both hands. Good quality and sturdy.

Platypus gear (3L Platy Bottle, 1L Platy Bottle and GravityWorks Filtration/Storage System) being filtered/dispensed/filled during backpacking trip through Colorado's Mt of the Holy Cross Wilderness.

I've been using my "pre-decoration" 1L Platy Bottle (1.0 oz with Platypus push-pull cap) for three years. This piece of backpacking gear has multi-use: I use it for drinking water around camp and I have it as a backup in case I ever have a problem with my main hydration system (I use the clean bladder from my Platypus GravityWorks filtration system - see my review of that excellent system). On a recent backpack trip we decided to tag Colorado's Mt of the Holy Cross via the Halo Ridge route. That day included 11 hours of backpacking between 12,000 and 14,000' with no access to running water (i.e. we needed all the water we could carry). We hadn't planned on this ascent and it was great to have a backup Platy Bottle (for additional storage) on hand!

Hey,

The threaded cap part is the same as a 2L soda bottle. I think that works out to about 25mm. The actual opening you drink through is obviously a bite-valve though.

These are sweet water bottles. I've only used it for running so far, but I love that its pliable. It makes it easier to hold and run with in my opinion. Would definitely recommend the Hyperflow version if you're using it on the go! Looking forward to testing it out in the snow!

I did use mine until the constant folding caused a weak spot that turned into a hole. I have several, because they are honestly great bottles. The one that broke I had used for three weeks solid, every day at work. I could carry it in my back pocket while I worked. When the bottle is filled, the water maintains a good shape. When the bottle is empty, it can be folded into my back pocket.

Like all reviews before this one, I like that the bottles are collapsible. These are great for ski touring. If it is near your core, you can pull it out and sip without having to worry about frozen drinks. Mine did not fail at a seam, but in the middle of the bottom of the bottle. Weird place to break, but it did see heavy use!

Cheap prices. If your careful you can easily get your money's worth.

This bottle is a perfect addition to the camelback hydration system for bigger longer days or a good replacement if your avy/photo/camp pack doesn't work with a hydration system. I love that it is malleable and can squeeze into tight spaces when your pack is super full and folds down to nothing when you're done. Also cool that it works with the gravity fed filtration system.

These bottles are great for skiing especially in the resort when you may not have a pack. As you drink the water the bottle gets smaller and the water doesn't slosh around. The 0.5 liter is my go to bottle.

Unlike some socially awkward backcountry enthusiast, this bottle will fit anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances. Use it as a primary water source during a movement, or just as a supply at camp. Either way, it has virtually no impact on your pack weight, or space. Weighing about as much as the pebble that hitched a ride with you from mile 11 to 15 and taking up only a little more space, it's a no brainer to carry one or two of these on every backcountry jaunt.

It's not insulated, so it isn't appropriate for hot water, coffee, tea, etc. But it'll hold cooking water or drinking water until you need it.

On my last trip I carried two empty 1L bottles. Filled them both at camp, cooked, cleaned and drank from them and didn't have to fill anything up (e.g., camelbak reservoir, nalgene) in the morning before breaking camp. I'd replace my nalgene with one of these completely, if they had a large enough opening to fit a steripen.

Only had it about a month now, but I love it. The plastic is much sturdier than it looks, just need to keep it away from sharp objects (duh), but otherwise a very good, convenient, ultra-portable water bottle. I would like to try the push/pull top though, might make it a tad more easier to drink out of.

For me, the best part about the "platypus softbottle" is it's flexibilty. My Trew jacket has this big inner-pocket, and the platybottle is able to bend and conform to fit comfortably against my ribs. Plus, being on the inside of my jacket next ot my body, I haven't had a problem with the bottle freezing. so far I've owned 3 or 4 different platybottles in various sizes. Finally, having a bottle that gets smaller and smaller as you drink more water is pretty awesome.

So far i have only experience one problem; one of my bottles developed a pin-hole sized leak inside of my jacket, making for a cold couple of hours. I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but is appears that after a good deal of time, and after being folded and rolled up hundreds of times, the plastic in the bottle begins to wear and crack and eventually crack all the way through to the outside. This only happened on the oldest bottle I had, and (of course) I had no problems sending it back to BC to exchange for a new one. So all in all its a cool idea and I would definitly recommend picking up one or two of these for yourself.

i should also add... I wasn't a big fan of the bite-valve type top. The simple screw-off, screw-on lid is my favorite.

I love this bottle for skiing. It is super thin and fits in pockets really well. You barely notice that it is in your pocket. When you crash it does not break your ribs. The bottle is soft and flexible. I have crash a bunch on these and have never had a blow out. The .5L size is the best for skiing. The 1L is a little big in my opinion.

In my opinion, Platypus Softbottles are essential. I use them when I travel to Mexico every summer and take several to give to my friends. I have three in my office refrigerator and I always keep one filled with water on my night stand. Those sold for the purpose of keeping wine fresh are essential. I have every size imaginable. I especially appreciate that you can roll them up when they are empty. Great if you are ecologically minded and disdain throw-away plastic bottles. Get several--you won't regret it! When flying, unroll your Platypus and fill it with water when the TSA personnel allow you through the line.
