Hasn't let me down
I've taken this out on several trips, stored in my osprey pack. So far, it's done the trick!
Faulty when delivered
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This bag split open along the side the first time I attempted to fill it. It appears that the seam wasn't properly bonded when manufactured.
I like it.
I bought 2 of theses for a 2 day hike. Both worked well. no leaks, no problems. hose is a nice length, not too short not too long. No frills here, just a basic water sack, which is really all you need.
Leaks!
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This bag leaks at the cap. Had a whole bag leak in my trunk getting all my gear wet. Pass on this one folks.
Sturdy.
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Connections are tight and there haven't been any leaks or annoyances. Seems very well-built.
Platypus Cust. Service is Awesome
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
The bladder is very durable. I stepped on my connector cap and broke it, but Platypus was very nice and sent me a new one.
Hydration is a Full Time Job
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I live in the desert and I'm super active. Not easy to keep up with hydration. I fill this every night and keep it by my head, because if I don't even have to sit up I will actually drink when I wake up thirsty. I also carry it every time I hike somewhere short just to catch up with hydration. Great when driving long bumpy dirt roads too....
No leaky
Platypus makes great durable products and this is definitely one of them. I have been using mine for about 2 years now and have never had any issues with it.
Prepping for Torres Del Paine
good bladder
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
I like it so far. Some times you feel like your sucking a tad too much air. But i have never owned another bladder so... Water tight seal so far, and I like it.
Hoser Design Flaw
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
In the early days, the 2 liter Hoser had a flat bottom so you could conveniently set it on its base for filling (like the platy bottles have). This was a positive feature which reviewers liked. The newer version of the Hoser has the ridiculous new "floppy tab" bottom (I am guessing it is cheaper to make) and now they will not sit stably on the ground for filling. This is a massive design flaw, which I have brought to CD's attention in the past, but it's being ignored. They need to bring back a Hoser with a flat base (like the bottles), or I will have to switch brands. Too bad, because everything else on this product is good.
3L Platypus Hoser Rocks!
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I'm a big fan of Platypus products (see my reviews of their GravityWorks water filtration/storage system, Platy SoftBottle water bottle and Shut Off Valve). I bought my Hoser in 2009 and went with the 3L version (3.8 oz) because it's nearly as light as the 2L and 1L versions (3.6 and 3.2 oz, respectively). For comparison, CamelBak's 3L Antidote Hydration Reservoir comes in at 7.0 oz. When I backpack, I try to limit water-weight and carry only 1L at a time. With the 3L Hoser, I have flexibility to carry more, if needed (i.e. if water sources are fewer and farther in between). I used a black Sharpie to add marks indicating when I've filled bladder to 1L or 2L (see pic). Otherwise, you need to add water to bladder and then cap and invert to see how much you've got!
I only carry water in my hydration bladders (no Gatorade or other energy mixes, etc.) and I clean and dry thoroughly immediately after each trip - so far, no "funk" problems for me. In my experience, Platypus products are very durable - mine take a beating and I've never had a leak. These bladders are highly recommended!
Take care of it!!
First, I love the design, no lid that is, at times, impossible to open...super light, and bite valve DOES NOT LEAK, which is the reason I changed brands of bladders. Second, I didn't clean it after first use, and did have some pretty serious stink and nasty taste to it. I then cleaned it, using only soap and water, and put it in the freezer to store it, then next time I used it...NO STINK!!
So take care of it properly, and it is a terrific hydration system, miles above the other leading brand...
Failed on first big trip
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
I purchased the 2L and used it several time with 1 liter. Put 2L in it and 150 feet out of my car going into Congaree NP in started leaking. Unpacked my GG Crown VC60 and found that the lower corner of the hole that you hang it by had pulled apart. Had to hand carry it 6 miles to camp. Not sure if I'll try another, truly liked it.
works great and is priced right
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
does the job!
simple and effective
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
This bladder is simple, effective, and priced correctly. Its simplicity cuts ounces compared to other versions on the market. They don't last forever, but I've enjoyed using this product on all of my hikes.
Great Bladder
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I was aprehensive buying a Pltypus and bought this expecting it to break or leak after a short while. Lets be honest, they feel "cheap." I have used this many times and it has never done me wrong. Would highly recommend this for your backpacking bladder needs. Also, I like putting it upside down from what the picture shows so the cap is on top. It still works that way and runs less risk of leaking all over everything (only works for the 2L, not the 3L).
How do you get water to the hose? I have the 2L as well but when I turn it upside down the water is not close to the hose.
Awesome Bladder
Awesome Bladder for the price.
Simple
I love this bladder! It is BPA free which is a plus. It is easy to use, easy to clean and very durable.
Generally Satisfied
Let me start off by just saying there's nothing extraordinary about this hydration system. If I had to sum it up in 2 words it would be 'simple' and 'functional.' This is saying a lot. I am overall very satisfied with this system. It does what I expect it to do and it does it well.
As far as cleaning goes, it's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Use your brain. If you leave it with water in it and you don't clean it after every use, guess what.... it's going to suck. If you take care of your gear it will take care of you.
Final say:
I will buy this again when I need to replace.
Where are these made?
Made in USA
Can anyone tell me which is the best way to clean one of these, please.

Will the 2 L model work with a Black Diamond...
Will the 2 L model work with a Black Diamond Magnum Pack, or should I just go with a Camelback combo? I don't want anything too large.
Anyone know the weight (without the hose)...
Anyone know the weight (without the hose) of the 3L? If someone could post weights it would be pretty awesome and you would be my hero.

I am wondering what size the fitting on...
I am wondering what size the fitting on the bag that attaches to the hose...is it like a 1/2'' male threaded fitting? I am looking to use it for not the typical usage and I think it would work well if I can easily attach and detach it.
Fits a plastic soda bottle.

My puppy got ahold of my 2 liter platypus bladder. Can I replace just the bladder - I don't need the other parts? Thanks.
The same thing happened to the plastic hose on my water filter. Call Cascade Designs @ 1-800-531-9531 & explain your situation. They are very understanding.
I have a platypus bladder and it is now...
I have a platypus bladder and it is now leaking. How do I go about getting it warrantied? I am in australia but bought my bladder in canada. Any advice?
I'd start out by trying to find a local dealer, they should be able to help you out. If that doesn't work, contact Cascade Designs directly.http://www.platypushydration.com/dealer_locator/international.aspx?RightNav=DealerLocator&Inside=2http://www.platypushydration.com/contact_us/customer_service.aspx?RightNav=ContactUs&Inside=2If you can isolate the leak, Platypus has a patch kit, if you can find it, that seals most small leaks. It could be a temporary fix until you work out the warranty details.

I've used my 3L Hoser for almost 5 years and have never noticed any problems due to lack of "standable" design.
