Platypus Big Zip LP Hydration Bladder

Got this bag to use mountain biking, and hiking. It hasn't disappointed with repeated use. I would highly recommend this product!

The quick disconnect hose with this bladder is a great feature. This bladder packs up small and the mouthpiece is nice too. Awesome product!

This thing comes with me almost everywhere. It comes with me on long trail runs, ski days, hikes, and even sometimes in my work bag (a hydration-compatible backpack). I love how easy it is to fill, clean, and dry. The mouthpiece is pretty good about not spilling water when it bumps against me or my pack, like other bladders have been known to. I wouldn't change a single thing about this bladder!

I bought this after I had a camelbak 100oz reservoir start leaking. I was first going to buy another Camelbak until I saw someone using a Platypus bag at this concert I was at. I checked it out and immediately loved how small it can fold down into and how easy it is to refill and close. I also really like how the hose clicks in and attaches to the bag and that the bag doesn't leak when the hose is off it. There's no taste to the water unlike what I found with the camelbak after having the water sit in there for a few hours. It's super easy to slide the handle off, unlike the hassle found when trying to twist off/on the camelbak top. Overall I love this reservoir and would probably stick with this brand from now on.

I brought this in my pack on a week-long elk hunt in Colorado. Never really heard of these things before but did a little research on options and chose this. I loved how easy it was to satisfy my thirst without removing the pack each time; one fill lasted me a day and a half in hot (for September) weather. I hung it in a specifically designed pocket. The bladder fills with out spilling due to the wide mouth. It cleans well for the same reason. Another thing I like about it is how small and light it is to pack when not in use. Thank you Platypus.

Used this bladder on a 8 day backcountry trip, it worked flawless, the wide mouth is perfect for easily filling it up, and holds plenty of water for long multi day trips. Added a quick disconnect to fill it without taking it out of my pack, highly recommend it!

Why hasn't anyone thought of this? This is the only kind of bladder I would spend money on. The function is amazing. Tip it upside down when you first fill up and you will see. Easy to put in ice if you are going out for the day and want to keep cold. And as far as cleaning goes it couldn't be much easier. I leave mine in the freezer when im not using it so as to keep it as clean as possible so that the moisture wont get the bladder clean.

No taste of plastic like my old water bladder.
Convenient access to my water.
I even fell backwards onto my pack with a full bladder and no leaks with the sudden impact.

I've only had the Platypus Big Zip 2L for a short time, but so far I'm very happy I bought it. I always thought hydration bladders would make the water taste like plastic. But, I see more and more hikers using them so I decided to try it. The bag seals great and there is no plastic taste to the water.

For the longest time, I refused to use a hydration bladder: I thought water bottles were better. Big mistake!
I finally started using them, and what a difference!
I tried other brands, mainly Camelback and Osprey, but the Platypus Big Zip is a super duper beyond perfect hydration system.
I use the 2 Liter in my Deuter ACT Trail 28 SL, which the pack I use to work in camp.
I use the 3 Liter in my Osprey Kestrel 32, which is the pack I use for psycho brutal insane day hikes or I use the 3 Liter in my Osprey Kestrel 58 multi day trips.
The pouch itself is puncture resistant. It has a wide industrial strength zip lock mouth that is very easy to fill or clean, and a "tool" (for lack of a better word) that secures the zip shut and prevents leaks.
The low and narrow profile makes it a breeze to slide into the pack.
I absolutely love the quick disconnect, it's easy, secure and convenient.
And the bite valve is awesome because it allows more flows than the other bladders I've tried. It has a shut off setting to prevent leaks when you're not using it.
I can find absolutely nothing wrong with this one.
Some find the bite valve tough to use, I don't: I think it's an angle thing, you just need to familiarize yourself with it.
I have taken it hiking, backpacking, I have worked in camp with it, I have dropped it, kicked it, sat on it, slept on it when using my pack as a pillow, I have never ever had an issue with it.
No leaks, no punctures, no problems.

I have had the 2L for at least two or three years now and no issues at all. Bag seals great, hose is perfect length and mouth piece works pretty good. Take a little harder biting than other bags that I have used, but that does not really bother me.
Easy to clean, and easy to pack.

well... I not my favorite. I would not say that this is a bad bag, I like how it closes it makes it easy for cleaning and filling. however I have had this bag leak more then once and get my pack soaked. I always keep my items in my pack in dry sacks so they have always been safe but it still does not help the pack being wet and weighing it down and then that getting your pants wet... never fun.

Much better design than the first mover in this category. Doesn't leak like hump day and the mouth piece is just plain better.

Easy to clean, works, just make sure you put it in right side up! :)

The simple top makes sealing the bladder a breeze. Never have had this bladder leak. No matter what I've done to it. Even when packing a bear canister and cramming my pack so there is no available room and putting much pressure on the bladder. The wide opening makes for easy cleaning as does the fact it comes apart easy. I've had cheap bladders, I've had one by the major competitor and nothing is as simple to use and clean as this.

Got a couple nasty/rank camelback bladders that I didn?t care for properly and needed replacing. I have a geigerrig that is in good shape but I wanted a bigger bladder for a recent desert bikepack trip where I needed to carry a couple days worth of water before we could resupply. So I supplemented the 4L reservoir from the Platy Gravity filter I had with this 3L bladder. Holds water?can reach in easily to clean it out if needed (or wedge something in there to help it dry). Its lightweight for transporting when empty (lets face it, water is about the heaviest thing you?re going to carry when doing anything in the backcountry). Something of note for very specific needs---oversizing the bladder with a little less than its capacity in water lets you bend/fold/shape the bladder into some funky places. At different times over three days, the 3L and 4L both spent some time in my bike frame bag conforming to the triangle shape and around bike tubes and tools and a stove? Kept the excess water weight off my back, helped lower the center of gravity and held up (no leaks or punctures) even with all off road mileage including bouncing up and down some big elevation changes at speed.

Well made, and very heavy duty! Cascade Designs has the most liberal lifetime warranty ever! (Yes, I had to send it in after it got a pin prick in it, was "field repaired with a hot knife and a piece cut from the top corner material. They sent me a new one-no questions asked.) The large opening is great and I LOVE the detachable hose, because it has a valved connection so you can leave it off with it full. (The non-Zip model is cheaper but doesn't have this.) Very versatile. Just plain good stuff!

I've used a few different reservoirs in the past and this is by far my favorite. The big opening makes it really easy to clean out when you need to. The bite valve is sturdy and drip free. I love the quick disconnect hose, it makes it super easy to get in and out of my packs without messing with the hose. The quick disconnect parts are also compatible with my Katadyn Hiker Pro filter. I have had mine for about 3 years and it is still going strong.
