    Details

Superlative stopping comes to the iconic Dogma.

Inspired by Gran Fondo events, the Pinarello Dogma K Hydro Road Frameset is identical to the Dogma K frameset, except for the addition of disc-brake technology for unmatched stopping power in all conditions. Although it suffers a minor weight penalty over the non-disc Dogma K (in this case, roughly 150 grams), it benefits from greater stopping power, especially when the conditions take a turn for the worse.

If you're not familiar with the Dogma K frameset, it's essentially an endurance-oriented version of the Tour de France-dominating Dogma 65.1 frameset, with the same Japanese-sourced Torayca 65HM1K carbon fiber and electronic/mechanical cable routing that makes the Dogma 65.1 an ideal choice for racers and pro cyclists. However, where the Dogma K Hydro (and Dogma K as well) differ lies within its more forgiving ride, courtesy of a more relaxed head tube angle and lengthened chainstays. And like most endurance bikes, it can easily accommodate wider tires without any clearance issues whatsoever.

You'll notice the striking asymmetrical design of the Dogma K Hydro frameset, which is beneficial in leveling the differences in frame deflection from one side to another. Other cool features include a 1.5-inch lower headset bearing for increased front end stiffness for a more predictable steering feel, as well as a redesigned Onda HD fork that's made to handle the stresses of disc brakes. And to handle the braking on the rear end, Pinarello mounted the disc caliper at the chainstay rather than the seatstay location that most manufacturers use.

    All sorts of awesome

    This bike is sooooo nice.

I built this up with Dura Ace Di2, Shimano 785 shifters/brakes, 3T bar and stem, and both Zipp 303 and HED Ardennes Plus for a spare wheelset. I also included Vittoria Open Corsa CX 700x25. The 25mm profile is perfect for the wide stance of both wheelsets. The bike has tons of clearance and could actually take a wider tire if desired.

Unpacking, i was super impressed. The bike was built and packaged very well. I only had to reassemble a small amount of parts. The detail work on the bike is fantastic. Pinarello did a great job on the paint, and making sure all the details are taken care of. The bike is a bit heavy which is something I had heard about Pinarello. It weighs 18.5 lbs which is a couple of pounds more than my friends Specialized Tarmac with similar components.

Once on the road, I found this bike to be very responsive. It corners really well. I felt a very big difference in cornering and in lateral stiffness compared to my 5 year old Cannondale Super Six that this is replacing. The bike is also a little harsher than the old bike. It is built like a sports car and you feel the road a little bit more than the super cushioned bikes that the other big names are pumping out.

One note of warning. You need to register your frame with Pinarello within 10 days of purchase to extend the warranty and crash replacement for an additional year. The bike took over 10 days to arrive, so I didn't have a serial number to register. Pinarello is very rigid on the extension policy. I really wish Competitive Cyclist would be aware of the warranty policies of the bikes they are selling. It would have been great for them to send me the serial number ahead of delivery, so I could get the extra year. An extra year is a big deal, especially when you consider it also extends the crash replacement protections. A total bummer for sure. If you buy a pinarello, get someone at Comp Cyclist to send you the info.

    Dogma Disc is Here!

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Along with all the additional improvements discussed in our description, the best aspect of the Dogma K Hydro is without a doubt the safe, reliable and high performance disc braking capabilities. Having disc brakes on the road has completely changed the game and Pinarello has stepped up their flagship Dogma model to take a big step forward with the technology. An even better Dogma combined with road disc baking brings rare and sensational ride that stops on a dime under any condition.

For the ride of the frame itself, the 3 words that quickly came to the front of my mind were comfort, stability and speed; particularly on the flats and descents. Though it is certainly steady on the climb, it is not particularly lightweight putting it out of a climber's category. It is however a phenomenally comfortable ride for rough roads and long days in the saddle, and the one of kind aesthetics will certainly turn some heads.
