I used this lamp while camping at Red River Gorge and it was perfect! It has a long range spotlight that was great for looking further down the trails. The red light worked well around camp to avoid blinding my friends, but also kept the bugs from swarming around my face. Very comfortable and not bulky. Plus it has an emergency whistle...just in case. If you need a wonderful, versatile headlamp, get this one!

As you can see I'm using that light for almost everywhere.

I brought 2 headlamps to Kilimanjaro, this one and an old Tikka Plus. This headlamp is a serious upgrade from older models. This thing blasts light into the night w/ new batteries. The button works when you're wearing gloves. I also like the slide over the lens which gives you a beam or wide angle option. It doesn't appear to be pictured here, but on mine that back clip has a sleek and loud whistle, a nice feature if you're in a jam. I donated my old Tikka Plus to a porter- I'm keeping this one.

I love this headlamp SOOOOO much! I was at a NOLS wilderness EMT course and I found this to be my favorite piece of gear all month. It was very helpful walking back to the cabin at night because it was pitch black out. I loved the lens that distributes the light and makes it much easier to read when there is no other light source. The red light was extremely helpful when taking care of patients in the wilderness because it didn't blind them and was a more comfortable light while letting you see. The strobe was great for signaling for help if you r stranded or in my case, signal for help while caring for patient and creating shelter. The bright setting was great for scoping terrain in the middle of the night in order to evacuate a patient off a mountain. The light beam was extremely long and enabled me to see farther in the distance. I sorta miss depending on this headlamp. Will not disappoint.

LOVE IT!

This headlamp does the trick. I've primarily used it for hiking or touring and it puts out plenty of light for those activities. It does chew up batteries a bit in the cold weather, but that is to be expected with non-lithium which I plan on switching to this season. Its not quite bright enough for biking/skiing. As another person mentioned its a great improvement over the Tikka 2. Mines still working after 3 years.

Was happy with Tikka 2, but wanted more light. This XP2 met my needs with a big plus -- designed to accept lithium batteries. In the winter, lithium is key and the Tika 2 was not designed to use lithium batteries. It works well in lots of water (used it during a rescue with 6+ inches of rain in 4 hours). Have used it down to 20 degrees with regular batteries. Expect to use it in colder temps this winter.

This is my go to headlamp that I take along for most occasions. It's great because you can have a concentrated beam for a bit more distance, or a diffused beam for hanging out and not blinding everyone you look at. The red is great for night vision and keeping the bugs from swarming your face. I love all the settings, and (it's not in the specs) but it has a whistle on the headband!!! So cool! This would be the perfect headlamp it if had a super bright, long distance beam option! (But it's still pretty great).

I purchased this headlamp for my next hiking vacation and instead, I used it for interior painting! I was impressed by the brightness and long battery life. I have no doubt when I do go hiking next, this headlamp will be strap to my head to guide the way!

I used the Petzl Tikka XP 2 for a four-day, 40-mile backpack in the Bob. It did fine. I liked the red light for saving my night vision. I have not exposed it to water. I use it all the time around the house and when working on the car---I keep it in my center console. It is a solid performer.
