The Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp is an upgraded version of the top-selling Tikka with these additional features: 4 LED's instead of 3, a push on/off button instead of a slider switch, a tiltable housing, and 3 brightness settings with strobe function. The Tikka's immense popularity is due to its immense functionality. From Midwest college student to hardcore mountaineer, it seems as though everybody finds the Tikka the handiest of tools. This extremely lightweight and compact headlamp has a wide, elastic headband that fits comfortably and securely for extended use. The Tikka doesn't throw out huge candlepower (33ft or 10m), making it ideal for activities requiring close-up lighting like trail hiking, setting up camp, and reading. The Tikka runs on 3 AAA batteries (included), and at 2˝ ounces, weighs next to nothing in your pack.
Bottom Line: Backpackers and Campers: this is a MUST for your gear closet.
I've used my Tikka Plus once while backpacking, and it is plenty for typical camp tasks, while maintaining a trim figure and an almost unnoticeable weight (with lithium batteries). However, this light really shines (nyuk nyuk) when doing technical night hiking. I've used it in varied terrains, from flat trail walking to craggy granite boulder fields, and this light handles it all. Plenty of throw, and the color is perfect for reading that next boulder you're about to jump too. The LEDs Petzl uses are (IMO) superior to other types, such as those in Princeton Tec lamps, because the color is a true white, instead of the "off-blue" color of the PT and other bulbs. I night-hike with a buddy who uses a Princeton Tec lamp, and the difference really is noticeable. I like this lamp so much, I bought another for my girlfriend to use. 5 stars!
Like everyone else, I have found this headlamp works great. I use it for night hiking, and sometimes while riding off road. The light weight is a bonus. The battery life is amazing.

I love this light. My wife got it for me for Valentines Day. The illumination of this tiny headlamp is amazing. The recessed on/off switch makes it almost impossible to turn on by accident while packed away. All-in-All I am going to give this bad boy two thumbs up.
The main reason I purchased these lights were to assist me in my job. Then my son decided he had better plans to put them to use! As a HVAC/Building controls contractor, I am always finding myself inside a dark electrical panel or any other dark areas where work needs to be performed. They really free me up to do me job properly and SEE the results! My son uses his for outdoor type activities, especially in the summer months when we have campfires. In either case these lights are of the highest quality workmanship and well worth the money! I plan on showing these lights to all of my co-workers and they too may purchase them to help out with their work issues.
I simply love this headlamp. It is lightweight, powerful, and energy efficient. There are no wires to get snagged on with this ultra simple design. (One recommendation: Buy two. One for nighttime gardening and hiking, and the other as a spare in your car's glove bow for emergencies. It's a life saver!)
I use the Tikka Plus Headlamp for an unusual purpose: building and upgrading computers! I build half a dozen a year, and upgrade components continuously on the five PCs I have at home. This light works very well, providing lots of light in the dark, cramped spaces under desks and inside computer cases. It's a great help because I don't have to use one hand to hold a flashlight, and being on my forehead, it perfectly lights up all the small things I need to get at, such as jumpers, small connectors, and it enables me to read the small print on the motherboard and components.
The headlamp lasts a long time, which is very economical. Anyone who does much work with computers should have one.
Works very well, I use it every morning during my 4+ mile bike ride, I am very well pleased with the headlamp. I saw it originally at Fire/Rescue East.
This is an awesome headlamp for the price. I have owned several headlamps over the years. My first was a basic Coleman incandescent headlamp. Once you own a headlamp, you can't get along without it. I switched to LED Headlamps a couple of years ago with a Princeton Tec Aurora. I loved the amount of light and the battery life. It lasted 5 or 6 trips (1 yr) with regular usage. I got one for my daughters too. I started giving them as gifts and everyone loves them. I got the Tikka Plus this year for my brother-in-law at Christmas and saw it had more light than my Aurora so I bought one for myself. I love it. I like the recessed button on the Tikka Plus. It is easy to turn on. The Aurora is difficult until you figure it out. The four LEDs put out noticeably more light than the three LEDs of my Princeton Tec. Great for camping, hiking, reading and around the house. I use it for everything.
There's nothing bad I can say about this headlamp. Great for around the campsite, bouldering, or a hike through the woods. The tilt function is a welcome addition to LED headlamps. If you only own one headlamp, make it this one. If you own two, get the Myo 5.
I use my headlamp for everything... plus it makes my life safer when getting around at night on the mountain... everyone agrees this a one great little headlamp.
This is my first and only headlamp. In case you're wondering, it whoops a AA MagLite in brightness, but isn't focusable. The battery life is insane, she me a MagLite that does that. Also, it can fit huge and tiny heads. The light is WHITE. If in doubt, get it.
Nice light, and very lightweight, throws a good, useable beam. Ran in total darkness in woods over roots and such with no problems ... beam is not focused, so a hand-held for spotting reflective trail markers would be a plus, but it throws a wide beam for footing. good deal. batteries easy to change.
An improvement over my old Petzl. I still wish there was a fail safe way to keep from getting turned on in your pack and draining the batteries. Nice and bright, focus would also be nice.
You won't even notice this thing in your pack, let alone, in your pocket. 1 click for blinding, 2 clicks for medium intensity, and 3 clicks for doing just about everything other than hiking on rough terrain. This thing isn't going anywhere when it's on your head either! Great buy!
This little LED headlamp is the best!I lost power for over a week due to hurricane Ivan. As night fell I used the Tikka Plus to help get things done like cooking ,cleaning and picking up after the storm. This lamp did not let me down at all. I used the ''med'' setting which was more than enough light. The batteries showed NO sign of fading. It is easy to wear and has no weight. After using this lamp,I can't live without it. As soon as I got power back I ordered three more Tikka's for backup. As for that I give the Tikka 5 stars. Thank you Backcountry!
The Tikka Plus is truly amazing. 4 levels of light (high, medium, low, strobe) in such a compact and comfortable package. Light is a pale while color. Effective distance is likely more than enough for most camping situations. Used it while cooking, getting ready for bed, walking, and yes...even the bathroom. This hands-free light is outstanding.
Purchased the Tikka Plus Headlamp and used the product repeatedly every evening during a climb of Kilimanjaro. The Tikka Plus was extremely reliable, provided a broad spectrum of light and had variable settings for late at night and my fake disco (strobe) near the Summit. As soon as I returned, I purchased another and gave the Tikka Plus as a Christmas gift to an avid outdoorsman. Great product, very reliable and a great gift, to give or even get.
Great improvement over previous models. What I like the most is the On / Off switch. Not the sliding bar anymore but a push button. 3 Led's make it very bright and the variable intensity control provides extra battery life. Headlamp is very light.
Do I love the Tikka Plus Headlamp? You bet. It has too many uses to list here but suffice it to say that I am no longer kept awake at night while my husband turns on the overhead light to read! Not being called upon to "hold the flashlight" while he works under the hood of the car and don't hear "shine the light over here" when we are in the crawlspace under the house! Gave one to all our son's-their wives delighted too! Shipping was prompt and friendly!
I have purchased 6 of these headlamps. A wonderful gift for friends and family who have "everything". I gave 2 of them to my in-laws for Christmas last year. They were kinda put off - like "what am I going to do with this?". Well - almost a year later they both agree they don't know how they lived without it! Excellent for urban and rural settings. You can use it for just about anything: dog walks, home improvement projects, late night/early morning yard work, camping, hiking, etc. Enough light for just about anything. Light weight and you barely notice you have it on! Long battery life. A must have for any outdoors person. AWESOME PRODUCT AND QUALITY !!!
My wife and I will be heading off to Kauai for vacation in May and plan to use our headlamps when we hike into Kalalau for a two-night stay. Will report back on the headlamps after we return...
I used the Tikka Plus four nights in Yosemite in October. I really don't know why you'd ever need another headlamp. It does everything you need done around camp and in the tent and on the trail. And for the price, it is truly a huge bargain. It is so light you forget it's on your head.
The new Tikka Plus headlamp has a number of features that are an improvement over the first generation Tikka. There are also a few areas where I prefer the original.
Improvements: Swivel head, very useful 1 more LED (noticeably brighter) Better switch (by far) than the original 3 brightness settings and strobe. Replaceable outer lens (same as original) Relatively reasonable price
Cons: Less uniform light than original, harsh blue center of illuminated area. More of a ring effect than original. Slightly bulkier /heavier. Appears slightly more susceptible to damage from being stuffed in a pack or pocket during rugged hikes. This really applies only to the swivel head which looks like it may be the weak link in terms of durability. Great light overall. No problems to date, great battery life.
In addition to being a major outdoor type, I'm also a pilot. I don't fly at night without one of these on just in case I have an electrical failure. The Tikka(s)works so much better than a regular flashlight or filament bulb headlamp. This is why Im so sensitive to illumination quality and bulk, probably a non-issue for most users.
What can't you use this for? Camping, around the house, working on the car. This is by far one of the most useful and practical pieces of gear I have bought in my entire life. My buddies all break my stones about it, but then they want to borrow it.
Great little head lamp with a massive life span. Great for bombing around camp or reading at night. Its also lightweight and pretty nice to wear.
However, if you are doing something at night in the woods I'd say going to something with a little more kick. I got pretty freaked out by things I could just not make out when I was in the woods at night.
Good little light. Lightweight and bright enough at any setting to do necessary camp chores. Brightest setting is strong enough for the trail as well, for those times you don't quite make it to your destination before dusk.
I have had an original Tikka for several years, and this one has the advantage of being able to move the position in which the light is directed. Fantastic.
Love this headlamp, and have a couple of them. I use it for camping and trail running at night. It's nice and light, and throws a pretty good amount of light.
I love my Petzl tikka plus. It's so lightweight. It would be nice if it threw off a little more light but that's what you get for this size of lamp. It's great for reading or digging out stuff in your pack when you're camping.
I would like to say that everyone should own a Tikka Plus headlamp. I use it to hike and long board at night, fly fish at dusk, and start campfires while camping. It's well worth the asking price.
This light just seems sturdy: steady, clear white beam, works great in the rain, withstands being dropped. I had to change the batteries after 3 weeks of daily use of no more than an hour a day. This was somewhat disappointing; I had expected it to last longer...admittedly, my batteries were not high-end, but they were new. Anyhow, my major complaint is the button system: 1 press for high beam, 2 for mid, 3 for low, 4 for strobe. Next press should turn it off. The problem is that 10% of the time, the next press would not turn it off, but put it back on high beam, starting a never-ending cycle of settings that wouldn't cease until I took the batteries out. No fault of my own, either, I would be puttering around on low-strength for a half-hour, decide to turn it off, press the button, and instead of experiencing darkness, I experienced an intense strobe. I soon learned to open the battery compartment immediately when this happened, which is slightly difficult by design, temporarily solved the problem. Anyhow, I still love the Tikka Plus, much better than the Princeton Aurora, and would recommend it despite the flaws...though I'm considering the XP upgrade.
What a great headlamp! It is light and comfortable to wear. The four LEDs cast a nice wide beam to light your way. Large on/off button that can be used easily with gloves. Battery life is exceptional.
Not the brightest or most focused beam, but great balance of brightness and battery life.
I purchased two of these headlamps, one for my husband and one for my son who will use them for hunting. Now, I have two very happy men who were looking at them but didn't buy them. Great quality.
As is my typical style, I researched my purchase of a lightweight head lamp thoroughly. I wanted something to wear running early in the a.m. so I could see the trail. The Tikka Plus is perfect. Lightweight and comfortable. Just enough light to see the path. I would recommend this to any runner needing the same.
These are great....they were perfect when my husband and I went camping, although I am the one needing to trek 1/4 mile in the dark in the middle of the night!
This little lamp is powerful and light weight. I owned a Petzl lamp with the large front light and four AA batteries. It was heavy and bulky and I found excuses not to use or carry it. This Tikka lamp fits the bill. I will make it part of my regular gear especially on winter hikes.
Wonderful piece of equipment. I use it daily for lighting where I'm looking. It's much handier than turning on a lamp and very comfortable on the head. So far, the light it bright enough for my purposes. The up-down flexibility aims the light just where you want when you are looking forward. The only qualm is when I'm looking left or right, I have to slide the headband to the desired direction. I'm not sure if allowing a left to right tilt capability would help, but it might be worth exploring.
Best hands-free LED light out there - hands down!!! Light on the head, bright as they come, and well-designed. I bought 4 of them after first discovering this product in Paris, France.
My wife and I went showshoeing at the Sundance Yurt with a large group of people all trudging up the hills. We were out calling owls with a division of wildlife employee who was wearing a small headlamp. I was bringing up the rear. I put the lamp on the lowest setting and this worked out really nicely as it was not too bright for the night. I put it on the highest setting and it caused many heads to turn, must have been bright. You won't go wrong with this headlamp. Great size, very bright and easy to use controls. I have about a dozen headlamps which range in price from 15.00 to 250.00. This one is a keeper. I actually bought it for my son for Christmas and borrowed it to give it a quick field test. The four L.E.D.s are very bright and this is a well designed lamp.
My husband says he feels as if he's grown another hand when using his headlamp. Sometimes ordering gadgets doesn't work out well. But this was a pleasant surprise.
Outstanding headlamp. Downhill at night in the Wyoming mountains was never so easy. Easy to use, not much weight, and the light production is impressive, especially on those cloudy nights in the backcountry.
I purchased the Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp for my husband who is deployed in Iraq. Since there cannot be any lights after dark, this came in handy. He loves it!! Couldn't ask for a better headlamp!
These lamps are awesome. I highly recommend this headlamp.
This is my second one. The first one didn't survive 2 - 100 meter swim sections in the ocean at the Adventure Racing World Championship Race in Newfoundland. The lamp would be perfect if it were waterproof.
OUTSTANDING! What more can I say? The Tikka Plus headlamps I bought (3 of them) were absolutely outstanding during a recent trek up Mt Whitney in California.
I would recommend this for hikers. Not the brightest light in the world, takes 3 AAA batteries can be a pain for some. Really light compact comfortable fit. Just enough light to get around in the dark.
These headlamps are great; we used them for packing up our gear & tent in the dark & it's nearly like doing it in day light. Wish we had bought them years ago. Well worth the money.
I use this headlamp for everything. Home improvements. Car repairs. I have even used it to finish mowing the lawn. Oh yeah, and it is great for camping. It is light and compact enough that I carry it with me whenever I am in the backcountry.
I've had a slew of headlamps throughout the ages, and The Tikka is one of the top ones out there. Its small (fits in a pocket), bright (all the levels are useful), and functional. I'm really pleased with it.
There is a really good reason these things are so popular. They provide plenty of light for everything but complex route finding, have a super-long battery life, and weight nearly nothing. This little guy goes with me on everything except alpine climbs (where a halogen is a pretty nice thing to have). Tossing it in the pack (just in case) has saved my skin more times than I can count.
Lightweight size, three brightness settings to conserve battery juice, and a strobe function for dance parties after you get back to camp. Perfect headlamp!
Batteries seem to last forever. Small and light. I keep one in glove box, one in my CamelBak, and one in the house. No need to ever get caught in the dark without a light again.
... that hasn't already been said? This tidy package is super handy, lightweight, and high quality. The single strap is comfortable and more versatile than the (also beloved) Zipka Plus. User-friendly button, three brightness settings (plus strobe), and tilt feature. At home or in the backcountry, on the trail or up a crag, in the car (or on the side of the road!), this is a great basic-use lamp.
I've used my Tikka Plus once while backpacking, and it is plenty for typical camp tasks, while maintaining a trim figure and an almost unnoticeable more...
