    Details

Meet the new generation of the big wall carabiner—the Petzl Owall.

Gearing up for The Nose? Giving it a go at the Shield? Make sure you rack up with the Petzl Owall Carabiner. Its oval shape prevents dreaded 'biner shift when you're aiding on sketchy RP placements, and the snag-free Keylock gate allows you to un-clip your previous hook placement without bumping it off the ledge. The Owall Carabiner is also an excellent choice for racking your nuts, pitons, or hooks.

    Nut Rackers

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Do yourself a favor and use the notched carabiner that came with your new set of nuts for something else. Like a keychain. Replace it with an Owall to avoid hooking your carabiner on a nut when placing gear. It gets annoying, especially when you're cruxing out.
I use Owalls to rack nuts, and on my set of aiders. The keylock nose doesn't catch on gear or bolts, making it perfect for those times where you need a larger biner to keep things organized.

One of the few keylock ovals on the market

This is one of the few keylock ovals on the market and the only one sold on backcountry.com. I bought it for use as a racking biner for my nuts. The oval shape and keylock nose make this perfect for this application. The down side to this biner however is its wieght. At 68g it is more than 2.5 times heavier than the 26g biner I use for each of my cams. It also makes it the single heaviest non locking biner I own. Thankfully I only use one.

      Cool features, but not oval.

I bought the O-Wall over other ovals (such as the BD Oval) because of the keylock gate. The keylock gate works great, the biner has a great narrow nose which fits well through small holes, and a very clean design. However, I have two gripes with it: it is heavier than every other oval on the market, and it isn't even oval! It's an oval-ish D-shape. This poses a problem when using it with pulleys like the Petzl Ultralegere which need to sit parallel to the carabiner's spine. A problem when using it for a hauling or rescue system.
