The Petzl Nomad Climbing Rope's 9.8mm thickness and dry coating makes it a solid choice for high-end sport climbs, burly trad routes, and cutting-edge alpine climbs. In addition to excellent handling and durability, the Nomad Climbing Rope also includes obvious rope marks six meters from the end to help prevent rappelling and lowering accidents.

Bottom Line: Climb more and stay safe with the Petzl Nomad Climbing Rope.

why only one season?

By:
April 23, 2009

Why cant i find a rope that will last more than one season? ok rope, but the reality of the situation is that there is no way im carrying a rope bag on long routs. my ropes get in the dirt, caught in flakes, destroyed in chimneys, stepped on, spit on, and bombed on, then thrown in the back of my truck for a short respite till tomorrow. can anyone make a rope to keep up? Wish i could give the rope a 3 1/2. on the ropes behalf, im still using it, then again why am i looking up ropes @ backcountry.

If you'll be falling on purpose, get a bigger rope. It'll catch a fall just fine but it's intended to be skinny and light so you DON'T fall. Being skinny means it will last a fair bit less time than a thicker rope if you're rope jumping with it.To add to Angus' remark. I don't know if he owned this thing, but I was given one to abuse this summer, and it got abused hard. Alpine big walls to single pitch sport routes. And I took a TON of falls on it. It held up better than alot of other ropes out there. It is labeled 9.8mm, but it climbs like a beefier rope, more like a 10mm. And these days I find that almost all ropes 9.5 to 10mm now last way longer and take way more abuse than they used too. I am a total advocate for carrying less weight around on my rope, and lightening up at negligible safety changes.--------------I do own it, and I've taken some serious falls on it. I'm just saying that you could buy a cheaper, fatter, burlier rope if all you want to do is bounce on it.

Best rope I've owned

By:

Slithers through draws like a greased rattler and beautifully light. How light? I just barely started noticing the weight 160 feet and 20 draws out from the belay, and I could still clip with one hand easily. It catches falls like a pile of pillows, doesn't stiffen up (or hasn't after a year), looks great in red, and seems to repel aluminum oxide quite well. Love it.

I've been using this rope with a gri-gri for years and it's always worked fine. But, the diameter is slightly under Petzl's recommendation (at least with the first generation gri gris). I feel comfortable with it, on the assumption that there is a little bit of conservatism built into Petzl's 10-11 mm spec.

Using this rope with a gri-gri would be a gamble. The gri gri is rated for ropes that are 10-11 mm in diameter. This being 9.8 is close but...The mechanism in the gri-gri depends on the diameter of the rope being at least 10 mm for an effective stop..This rope is sweet and I would highly recommend it...I also have a gri gri and after using it a few times went right back to a normal ATC....Having a gri gri is nice when you are climbing with someone who isn't an experienced belay (or a friend you know doesn't like to pay attention) because it has the auto lock feature but atc's are way more versatile and my climbing life has become way less complicated since I switched back.True the technical tested rope diameters for a gri gri are a minimum of 10mm, but this is a fat 9.8mm and works fine in my gri gri...always be safe and keep your breakhand on the rope though!

So far so good

By:
March 14, 2008

I recently bought this rope on a whim just to try it out and it worked great for me down in the Red River Gorge. The rope slid effortlessly over the rock while going for the hard clips which is quite a luxury. There are rumors that Petzl is have some consistency issues but I have had no problems what so ever and I hope it continues. Despite what the description says, the rope does have a middle mark.

good stuff

By:
September 22, 2008

i bought this rope a while back to replace my old rope, which after the abuse it had taken was beginning to become a little more than sketchy. this rope is great and has held up pretty well on the few exploratory top ropes I've done since buying it, and i can't wait to use it on some sport routes. Deff has a middle mark and marking 6 meters from either end. good stuff, i have no complaints

Sweet Rope

This rope is way more durable than ropes over a mm bigger. I have used it 4+ times a week for over 6 months now and it barely looks worn. The middle mark has lasted as well. I thought it would be gone by now but it is still there. The sheath is barely fuzzy. What a great rope! You can feel safe using it in a Gri Gri also. I have seen no problems using it in one.
