One of the most ventilated helmets on the market.

Petzl designed its Meteor Climbing Helmet to keep you safe while you climb with the utmost comfort in mind. The first thing you might notice is how many ventilated slits there are for maximum air circulation that helps cool your head on the hottest days on the mountain. Petzl used polycarbonate for the shell in order to keep it both lightweight and ready to take the impact. The helmet's polystyrene liner is breathable and comfortable, and it stabilizes the helmet on your head so you don't have to readjust it after every pitch you climb. Its headband cinches across your head for an ideal fit, and it folds into the helmet for easy travel. The adjustable chin strap has a magnetic buckle so you can clip it on with one hand. This helmet is also compatible with a headlamp or Petzl's Vizion eye shield so you're ready to send whatever route comes your way.

    It's so comfortable and lightweight

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I love the Meteor helmet. It's extremely light weight. The streamline padding is super comfortable. The Meteor is very easy to adjust, it has magnetic closure and a secure harness that cradles your skull nicely. In addition, it is really cool looking!!
I have used this helmet so much that I can put my headlamp on without taking the helmet off, headlamps easily fit around it and stay in place.
Highly recommend it. One thing you have to be careful of, not only with this helmet, but with any lightweight one, is to pack it properly for transport or on the approach. All lightweight helmets need to be carefully stored!
    Absolutely love the Meteor!!!!

    Good helmet, just didn't fit

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Objectively this is a great helmet, and I bought it after reading a bunch of reviews. I purchased the size 2, but after wearing it climbing many times, it was just a bit too big. I could tighten down the inner frame, but the shell still moved around too much for my liking. So I returned it for the size 1, but that was way too small. So sadly, I'm returning both and going with the BD vector S/M which fits great and is about the same price. I still think this is a fantastic helmet--just not for my head I guess.

    My favorite rock climbing helmet

I've had at least 8-10 helmets over the years and this is my fav all rounder! For light and fast alpine climbing I still like the Sirocco, but this is my go-to for day to day guiding work and play.

bright, light, & perfect for small heads

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Had the women's Petzl Elia before and it didn't quite fit — the Meteor in size 1 however fits perfectly! Really light, breathes well, tightens down tiny and the magnetic clip is pretty plush. Easy to pull through a bun/pony tail +1

    Super Light... a little fragile

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I bought this helmet because I heard it was super light and it's rated for side impacts and as a bicycle helmet. It definitely lives up to the hype, this thing is super light, comfortable and well ventilated.

One downside is how fragile it feels. And that's kind of the point, with foam like that, the fragileness is what makes it light, but it is a little annoying having to always worry about hitting it on things. I also worry about standing up and crushing it against roofs and things, but eh, comes with the territory.

The only reason I really took off the star was I don't like the side adjustment straps, but once you get it set once it isn't so bad. Overall, great helmet.

I have the previous model of this helmet, so not sure how useful this is anymore.

You should ALWAYS wear a helmet when climbing!!!

Petzl Meteor Helmet, super light weight! Very easy to adjust straps. I like that the chin strap uses magnets to assist in one handed operation. I don't like that Petzl didn't make the front of the helmet more flat for mounting a Gopro on it. Comes with an extra set of pads for the inside, and a bag to store it in.

    Protect yourself!

    The (near) perfect dome home.

This helmet is extremely light and comfortable to wear. the polystyrene foam allows for a great cushion if you happen to bang your head on a nasty whipper. Now what you do sacrifice with the weight is durability. This helmet will protect your brain cage better than just about any other climbing helmet, but it won't last as long as you may hope. Mine somehow cracked in my pack one day, which was a bummer.

If you can afford to shell out the $100 to purchase a helmet, I would get this one. Just know that you may need to get one every other year, depending on how much you climb.

    buddy's new helmet

my friend just got this new Petzl Meteor 3 helmet. i have the older model and talk it up, it's breathability is untouched, lightweight, and comfortable. only thing i could see possibly being a problem is the magnetic buckle on chinstrap, how will this work in the cold? also Yosemite granite got stuck to it and he was unable to clip until it was cleaned off. that being said, i would still love to get it and try this BA helmet for myself

    NICE AND LIGHT

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Great helmet, super light weight, easy to adjust, vents well - just be careful with it...will not take a beating like some of the other plastic helmets. If any of the following apply to you, then this helmet is not for you...

If you like to strap your helmet to the outside of your pack - this helmet is not for you. If you have ever used a carabiner directly in conjunction with your helmet - this helmet is not for you. If you like to use your helmet as a seat - this helmet is not for you. If you make a habit out of getting struck by rockfall multiple times an outing - this helmet is not for you.

Withstanding all of the above exceptions - and assuming you have enough swagger to rock the exotic color options - this is the helmet you will put on and forget your wearing - perfect.
