    For the versatile ascender.

Petzl made the Women's Luna Harness for climbers that find themselves in the gym one week and on an ice wall the next. Its women-specific EndoFrame design allows a freedom of movement as well as excellent weight distribution and just enough cush for hanging belays. You won't feel compression points, chafing, or irritability while sussing out the beta after each whipper.

DoubleBack Lite buckles offer quick and easy adjustability at the waist and legs to accommodate winter or summer gear. Petzl's harnesses come with red indicators at the high-tenacity tie-in points that let you know when it's time to retire the harness. Four solid gear loops, CariTools for ice tools, and a rear haul loop that also doubles as a chalk bag hanger help you send any wall that comes your way.

Great for all types of climbing

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got this harness for my girlfriend who's started climbing a little bit more. It's a great choice from Petzl, as one of their higher end harnesses you get a few more features like adjustable leg loops, optional drop seat buckle, and 4 gear loops. These features can really influence how comfortable the harness is on the wall and how easy it is to access your gear up there. I'd recommend this harness to anyone who is looking to get into sport climbing as well as traditional climbing.

    Decent harness.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This harness is pretty comfortable, but the leg loops definitely get uncomfortable on hanging belays and long climbs. Great for sport climbing though!

The bigger problem I have with this harness is that it started fraying very quickly. Although structurally it's not a problem, it does make the durability of the harness seem less on point.

    Petzl Luna harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought harness as a backup to my outdoor climbing harness -- I am a climbing gym instructor and I didn't want to have to transfer my gear all the time between work and climbing outside. This harness does its basic job well: I can safely climb and belay my partner. Beyond that, it's just okay. My biggest complaint is comfort -- the leg loops pinch and slide around a lot. This hasn't been a deal-breaker for gym top-roping, but became a major issue when taking and catching lead falls. I have used it a couple times for trad climbing after loaning out my primary harness. Hanging belays are noticeably more painful and the gear loops are set a little too far back for easy access to my gear. On the bright side, this harness features adjustable leg loops, which can be a hard-to-find feature in ladies' harnesses.

These points aside, my Luna is still perfectly functional so I still use it frequently for work at the gym but I will likely not be re-purchasing the Luna once I retire it.

Size Chart under Sizing is Inaccurate

Unfortunately the sizing listed for the Petzl Luna is not what the sizing of the product is. Medium is actually 30-33 in. waist and 21-25 in. Leg loops. Other than that it's a top notch harness, high quality, well made. Will return for size small thanks to Backcountry's excellent exchange/return process.

      Love it!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this harness so that I could begin to top rope/auto belay. I've used it in the gym plenty of times and it is so comfortable and so easy to put on. Since it is already double backed I just through it on real quick and tighten the straps and I am ready to go.

      Versatile yet simple

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I picked up the Luna harness for my fiancee this weekend, since she has been coming to the climbing gym enough that it didn't make sense to keep renting harnesses. Of course I made sure to get one that has adjustable leg loops and spots for ice clippers for her imminent future as an ice climber...well, a guy can dream, can't he?

Anyway, she found the harness to be quite comfortable, and the bright, solid color has a really nice look (contrasts great with her usually dark color scheme). The adjustable leg loops are nice, even if they dont get used for ice/winter, but the adjustment points are pretty low profile.

I have to say that I was a little surprised at how big the size S harness was, though. She is fairly close to the middle of the size range for that size, yet she needed to tighten the waist band pretty close to all the way. It still fit properly, but if I were on the margin of two different sizes, I would definitely size down with this harness.

With more use this review could get upgraded, but so far it's too soon to give a 5 star.

      Good Starter Harness

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a solid harness for starting out.

      1) Good women specific design, and easy to adjust as needed
      2) Sturdy and secure
      3) good padding on the waist and leg
      4) excellent shade of blue
      5) on the cons, it is heavier and bulkier than higher/similarly priced harnesses. But it's good value for the money

      Good Starter Harness

      Versatile and fits well.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Doesn't ride up anywhere, easy to adjust, and durable. Perfect for gals that enjoy climbing year round because there is plenty of adjustability to acomadte all your winter mountaineering gear. Compared to some other harnesses that I've used in the past I have much more freedom of movement in this one.

I've taken a couple of falls in it and it has yet to show any wear.

      I miss the old version

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had the old version of this harness and used it for EVERYTHING. I took a small spill on my butt descending Mount Sill, and it snapped the webbing that holds the leg loops up, so I sent it in for warranty replacement. (Sidenote: Petzl customer service is AWESOME.) Unfortunately, they sent me this new version, which is not nearly as good as last year's. The sizing has changed, so I had to switch to XS, which means the gear loops are EVEN SMALLER. I know there isn't as much room for big loops, but they can be bigger than this. I'm really bummed. I use this harness for trad because it actually fits my waist small enough not to be uncomfortable, but now fitting my pro and retrieving it is hard. The new version actually does fit better, but it's definitely not as comfortable as the old one. Backcountry is still selling last I may have to just buy one...or make a decision that I need a sturdier harness that won't snap so easily.

All in all, I'd recommend this harness for sport climbing or gym climbing, not for hanging belays or trad.

      Yup, I'm a guy.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

What can I say? It fits well. I tried on a few at the shop and the Men's ones just didn't feel too great. The guy at the shop tossed me his, as we were the same build, and I liked it. He brought me over and showed me it was a women's harness and said, "Fit is Fit, they all work the same." I use it fairly often and find the leg loops to be wide enough to work on my lean (skinny) frame. 5'9 135-140.
