Hey there... so my bag was stolen, and my harness and shoes happened to be in it. I love my harness its the Luna 2008 series that Backcountry says it out of stock and I can't find it on Petzel's site either. I love my Luna 2008 series, are they just not making it anymore? Cause I really want to get the same harness!

Best Answer Responded on

The new Luna fits much like the 2008. I would suggest trying out the new model - it's always good to replace gear that often undergoes stress every two years. However, if you're really attached to the 2008, you should check out "Dirtbag Deals" on Mountain Project.

petzl harness

really good harness i like it a lot, although i am men but i am really skinny so i need to use a woman's harness. i just started climbing but i am sure it is a really good sport climbing harness, i wear it with shorts pants everything and it is really light and fits with everything.

Love this harness!

I am 5'4 and 108 lbs I got a small in this harness and use it for sport climbing. It is the most comfy things ever! It sits on my hips in the right spot and I love the adjustable leg straps and how I never have to worry about double backing the harness! If you are just starting to rock climb I really suggest this harness it is wonderful!

Sooooo comphy!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So stoked on this harness. Very comphy, my legs never go numb in it when hang-dogging on my project. The gear loops are a little small but I've racked 12 draws just fine on the front two loops. The back loops are uselesslly far back. They're good for putting stuff on you don't need immediatly while climbing like bail-beaners, atcs, etc...

The wasitbelt started out a little stiff but has broken in now and is good.

I'm 140 pounds, 5'5", and I got a medium. Works great.

Great Color!

I just got this harness after rockin' the Arc'teryx R280 Harness for a while. I was pleasantly surprised. It is comfortable, fits perfect and has everything I need, including 4 gear loops, a chalk bag loop on the back and thick leg loops.

I am 5'5", 155 lbs, 29" in waist, 37.5" hip and the large harness fits perfect. Recommend this harness for sure!

Not good for all day climbs

Probably a good harness if you just climb sport and your partners don't hang on routes but it's really not comfortable if you're on hanging belays.

+ Gear loops work nicely- even for a hefty trad rack.
- The hook that lets you detach the leg loops is kind of hard to put back on when you're wearing the harness
- Mine is showing signs of wear on the bottom loop and I've only had it 3 years.

Great harness. Comfortable and breathable, even in hot weather conditions

Perf.

Super comfy, super light... super NOT sweaty... Totally happy I went with adjustable legs- Love that I don't have to double back- The green loop makes tying in easy in the dark- or when not REALLY thinking clearly... This one's a win.

Extremely breathable

I sweat a lot and my old harness wasn't breathable (Black Diamond Primrose). I'd take my harness off and would have big, wet sweat stains around my waist. I climbed all day in the Petzl Luna harness in very warm conditions, took off my harness and I was barely even damp underneath. I was amazed at the difference. The claims about the breathability of this harness are very true.

I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers about the angle of the gear loops. If you're used to molded gear loops that stick out from your harness, these definitely sit a lot flatter against the harness. It took a climb or two to get used to the different gear loop shape, but never had a real problem with them. The design of the loops is helpful when carrying a pack because they don't interfere with your pack's waistbelt. The Caritool loops (for ice climbing) are in between the front and rear loops, which moves the rear loops back a little further on the harness than what most people are used to. But I intend to use this for ice climbing, so I'm ok with it. The rear loops are on the small side, so this harness might not be the best for trad climbing unless you use a gear sling.

Overall a great harness for me and what I will be using it for.

Responded on

Just as a follow-up to my previous review...after wearing this harness ice climbing, I will tell you that the rear gear loops are pretty much inaccessible with the added bulk of winter clothing and layers. They are so far back. So you absolutely need caritools for clipping the ice screws.

DoubleBack buckles not secure on small harness

I use this harness size Small and am on the smaller side. Though convenient, I found that the DoubleBack buckles were not secure for multi-pitch climbing. The waist and leg buckles loosen throughout the day, especially when rappelling. This doesn't seem safe so I don't use this harness. Watching your waist buckle loosen by several inches on a hanging rappel is no fun. I've used several harnesses over the past decade and never seen anything like that. If it weren't for the faulty DoubleBack buckles I would give it a good rating, as I like the fit and design. It is a very light harness.

Best Harness

This harness is the best for mountain use and excels in all other climbing situations. Great fit. Great look. Great functionality.

The low down

PROS:
Great Color
Great Fit - super light and comfortable, even for hanging belays. The fit was the reason I bought the harness
Tag line loop in the back is easy to find and a good size
Love automatically locking buckles!

CONS:
loops are small - back loops are extra small. Not good for harness rackers. I have always been a harness racker, but since I got this harness I've been thinking about trying to rack on gear sling instead, simply because the loops can't comfortably fit all my gear.
Loops are weighted too closely to harness - they don't have that uplift feature and aren't very bendy so putting gear on and off your loops can be difficult.
Leg loop connector (the webbing that connects your leg loops to your harness) is not connected via a buckle. Taking it on and off is too difficult to do yourself in a time efficient manner. Women - this means, peeing with your harness on becomes a more difficult task. Either you pull the leg loop connectors aside(most convenient, but it is slopier than simply unattaching it), or you undo the cinch, having your partner put it back on when your done(can be awkward with men partners you may not know that well), or you take your harness off(argh!).

All around; great fit harness, but not recommended for a trad climber. If you only Top rope and sport climb, this harness would rock for you.

Great review. I alpine climb and I am getting into routes with vertical ice... I have the alpine bod and love the quick release legs for putting on with crampons and peeing!!! Based on your review this would be a real pain with this harness on a rope team. Oh how I wish they made a harness with a belay loop with quick release legs!

Responded on

I think you could easily replace the hook closure with a buckle. There seems to be enough extra elastic to cut the hook off and sew on a buckle.

Extremely Light!

I have the older style Luna harness and loved it, that is until I recently purchased the new model. It is not only more efficient (single sided double-back model), has a haul loop, is still super comfy, but is ridiculously light. I am 5'2"/115lbs. and have gymnasts thighs. The small is an ideal fit even with layers.

Which color is correct?
It looks like this harness is shown in two different colors- one a teal green and the other more of a gray. Both photos say they are the "Gray/Green" combo Backcountry.com offers. Which is correct?

Responded on

The Jade Green/Gray is the right colour, which is the only main picture.
