If your Petzl Quark, Nomic, or Ergo ice tool has seen better days, replace your worn-out or damaged pick with the Petzl Ice Pick. The Ice Pick provides plenty of stiffness but tapers to 3mm at the tip so you can still get one-swing sticks in cold, dense ice. The sloped-shape serrated teeth enable easy hooking and unhooking for reverse positions, and its rock-friendly tip makes it suitable for use on mixed routes.

Bottom Line: If your first-round pick didn’t work out .…

These work well if you are more focused on mixed. They shatter ice easily due to the larger than 3mm tip that Petzl claims it to be. For waterfall ice Taper the pick down to a true 3mm with a sharp file, reshape the first inch or so of teeth so they hook to the rear and send it.

Petzl makes the best picks

I used these picks last season and always had solid bomber sticks. Except when the ice was chunking to dinner plates, these stuck great on the first swing.
