An efficient, balanced pulley for hauling and rescue.

The Petzl Fixe Compact Pulley gives you the ideal balance of strength and weight for a variety of hauling and rescue situations. The Fixe allows you to set up a haul system with a mechanical ascender, and is also useful for redirection of the rope to avoid rope drag and unnecessary wear.

    Good Reliable Piece

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Heavier than the oscillante, but much stronger with its metal sheave and all metal fixed frame. Its heft is much more confidence inspiring than comparably sized pulleys. The fact that the two sides of the frame are joined at the base could potentially provide a backup in the catastrophic event of the sheave axle blowing out. Never heard of this happening, but I suppose it is possible. The fixe needs a larger carabiner or an oval due to the distance between the attachment rings. Smooth action and reliable. Efficient and balanced is an accurate description.

    Does the job

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used a few of these to set a pig rig and haul raft 20 up a cliff on the franklin river. They were small and light yet ver sturdy. At the end of the day they made the portage shorter by probably an hour or so, very happy boy.

When needed, you are glad you have it

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've had this pulling bumping around on my gear rack for a while now and had never used it. Ever. Until this winter during a waterfall ice climb where one of the guys in our group couldn't get to the top of the second waterfall (60m+ vertical) and where we still had further to go on our hike to get to "The Big One". We couldn't just leave him to sit at the bottom of the waterfall for 6 hours, so we got out all our pulleys and a Petzl tibloc and made a Z drag to pull him up all 60 meters. This thing worked perfectly and we were super glad to have the pulleys to help us out. When you need this pulley, you are very grateful that you have it.
