The only downside of the Core battery for me, in that the lamp gets quite a bit thicker with the Core.

I got this to go with my Tikka XP 2 and it works great. It's nice to be able to program the light usage for different activities. Charges quickly and works as expected.
great for regular headlamp users

Unlike some other reviewers, I haven't done any kind of extensive research on this product. However I've used it a fair bit and I've been really pleased with the life-span of the battery so far. Over the summer I work as an outdoor educator and use a headlamp probably an average a half-hour a day, everyday, for about three months. I was able to make it through the full season only having to charge this battery twice.
Cost-wise, you may have to use this battery quite a lot, and for extended periods of time, to make it worth the money. But if you are a regular head-lamp user and you're tired of throwing away AAAs, this thing is the solution.

A short explanation about Petzl's new rechargable, programmable battery.
It's not bad, but it could be Alot Better.

This battery pack has potential if they improve it(Larger mAh/Slow Discharge), but right now it's not worth the cost.
Let me explain. If you going on an Indiana Jones type expedition or traveling to some place that has no batteries/electricity around. Then 'Yes' this pack is worth paying/getting. The USB charging cable integration is fantastic. I have a solar(Power Monkey Explorer) charger and it works great with this pack.
Now with that said if you going to be around electricity, then it's not worth paying for.
It's better and cheaper buying AAA Rechargeable batteries w/charger.
I have a 4pack of 1000mAh and the performance I get is far better than this pack. However when I go for long hikes/trips I take the solar charge and this battery pack with me.

This thing rules! The fact that it uses a microUSB connection (same as my phone) was the icing on the cake. I was initially concerned about my headlamp sticking out from my head farther, but the difference turned out to be negligible. The only noticeable differences between the CORE and regular AAA batteries were how light the headlamp became and the longer battery life. The battery gauge is pretty great too! I definitely recommend this product to my coworkers and friends.

How to use and the merits of Petzl's new rechargable battery, The Core.
The CORE is a great idea

So Far so good for the CORE battery. The OS program is quite nice because you can actually set the headlamp to run the battery at full power so you get 100% power for as long as it can take it. It does make your headlamp a bit thicker, however mine still fits in the petzl case. All is well so far!! sweet slice of gear

From a green angle, this pack might sound appealing, but it offers battery life well short of conventional alkaline batteries. You have to dig into Petzl's technical literature and read closely. In a Petzl Tikka 2 headlamp, alkaline AAAs will give 40 peak Lumens for 90 hours, versus 35 peak Lumens for only 14 hours with this Li-Poly pack. This $40 pack may be equivalent to 900 batteries, but it doesn't come close to the performance of alkaline batteries on a single charge. Alkaline AAAs cost about $0.33 each -- about $1 for a full charge in that headlamp. Another 90h of spare battery power costs an extra buck to carry with you.
90h vs 14h
$1 vs $40
That doesn't seem particularly impressive to me.

...a rechargeable headlamp that holds a charge a long time and has standard (old standard as rechargeable will become the new standard in time...thanks Petzl!) battery backup! The ACCU Core Battery was a bit tricky to open at first as I was worried about breaking it. But with a few attempts and patience I opened it and it charged easily, and conveniently uses the same cable as my phone, so I can charge it in the car too! I used the Core with a Tikka 2 and was impressed with how long it held a charge...lost track of how long it lasted on one charge as I was using it mostly taking the dog walking and for shorter trips, but it went on for many days without any loss of brightness. I have not messed with the software download as I am not into teching out too much with my headlamp. I just want it to work and to know I don't have to buy and throw away all those regular batteries!!! But I love to have the backup ability to keep a set of AAA Batteries in the pack for my headlamp or avalanche transceiver.
Bottom line: Great product that functions exceptionally well and is good for the environment!
