Thanks to a stable tandem design and crazy storage capacity, Perception's Carolina II 17.5 Tandem Kayak with Rudder handles two people for weekend or full-day trips. The Carolina II's wide beam keeps this boat sturdy at sea, and the rudder helps you steer when the wind comes up. Large center and stern hatches hold overnight gear, and flotation bulkheads keep the Carolina II 17.5 Tandem Kayak at the surface in an unlikely rollover. Adjust the footbraces to the right length for your legs and tighten the band on the back of the padded Thermoform seat.

Bottom Line: Grab your paddling partner, hop in, flip down the rudder, and take Perception's stable Carolina II 17.5 Tandem Kayak out to sea.

Nope, that's clearly a mistake. According to google 31.3 centimeters is 12.3 inches: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=31.3cm+in+inches&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

My question is if I buy this for me and my wife can I still use it by myself for day trips without her? Will it be too tough to use by myself?

On the water you shouldn't have much difficulty. A friend of mine takes his out without much struggle, although a single kayak would certainly be more fun. Loading and unloading from the car is the biggest issue. For getting it into and out of the water, I strongly recommend a cart.
