Enjoy a smooth, stable day of paddling with the Perception Carolina 14 Kayak w/ Rudder. An adjustable seat keeps your back and butt comfortable, while padded knee bracing and adjustable foot pegs keep you in control in choppy water. Secure waterproof maps and paddling essentials under the bungee rigging, and stash your lunch and other gear in the watertight hatches. The Carolina 14's pull-down rudder helps with steering when the wind kicks up, and a side-mounted holder keeps your paddle secure when you stop to take pictures.
Bottom Line: Steer clear of land with the Carolina 14.
My rudder broke off and I need a replacement. The rest of the rudder construction is in tact, just the rudder is needed. Where can I get a replacement without buying the whle kit?
The Carolina is a great boat. I've gone on several multi-day trips in Resurrection Bay outside of Seward, Alaska with it. It feels great in the water and holds plenty of gear. I like to attach a deck bag in front of the cockpit for convenience.
As the center of gear knowledge, Backcountry.com wants you to be as informed as possible when buying high-end gear, and we've compiled price listings from some other reputable retailers for you to compare. On Amazon website, you wrote free shipping and refer to your website. But on your website, $150 shipping fee is automatically added. What's going on? Can I get the free shipping like you indicated on Amazon? I will order one immediately.
At 6'2" 240 lbs. will this kayak be large enough for me? Paddling would be maily lakes and Tennessee River. Also, is this a good one for a novice paddler? Thanks in advance.
You will be able to fit but the cockpit might feel a little cramped but you get used to it. There is plenty of foot peg adjustment. This is a big boat and will track well with the rudder.
Tons of cargo room, spacious cocpit, lots of room for stuff on the deck and a rudder to boot! For it's size, it's actually decently light weight and it's very stable in choppy waters
Hate to be the one again to ask "What do I want?" but.... I really like this boat, looks like what I'm wanting. Also looking at the Necky Looksha or the Perception Essence. I am 6 foot 195 lbs. I want to do some recreational paddling but want to start doing the adventure races so I want something good for both. Suggestions?
Paul, old question but you will not have any trouble fitting in this kayak. It is difficult to give advice on "what you want" but this is a fine kayak but also kind of heavy at almost 60 pounds. I would suggest to anyone buying a kayak to go to some demo days and try numerous boat brands and sizes.
I'm 6'-4" with an inseam of 36", will this boat adjust to my long legs? Any suggestions for a boat that will, I'm just getting started investigating the right boat for me.
I've only had this boat for about a month but I love it! It's much nicer than the other 2 kayaks I've had and it's the first one with a rudder which makes a HUGE difference in the winds. I'm 5'6" but this boat would still be roomy even for a much larger paddler. Very stable also. I recently did an overnight trip and had plenty of storage for tent, sleeping bag and other supplies. My only beef is that I wish the cockpit opening was a bit smaller. I'm not as fast as my friends with their 16'+ slimmer kayaks but my kayak is very easy to get in and out of and the seat is very adjustable and very comfortable all day. I would highly recommend this boat to anyone looking to upgrade from a smaller rec kayak.
you list this on yahoo for a lower price than your website,,,whats up with that? Perception Carolina 14.0 Kayak w/ Rudder 2009 $1,174.95 new - Backcountry.com Perception Carolina 14 w/ Rudder Kayak '07 $1,099.00 new - Mountain Sports Perception Carolina 14.0 Kayak w/ Rudder 2009 $881.21 new - Backcountry.
Jay, I have seen this a few times, It happens using the "shopping" feature of Google as well. I believe the $881.21 was probably the price during their end of winter sale when everything on the website was discounted or even that might have been the clearance price for the 2009 model as these are likely the 2010 models now. The long story short is that google and yahoo take "snapshots" of prices and that they are not always up to date. It sucks, I know. I get excited too sometimes when I think I have found a killer deal that way. Even worse are sites like Altrec that commonly only discount ONE color or size of something, and Google Shopping will list the item at that lower price. (that also occurs here, but with much less frequency.) I hope this answer helps a little. The lower price at mountain sports is definitely because it is a 2007 boat.
Love the cargo room and the space in the cocpit, Just make sure you remember to insert the leg braces otherwise it's a bit too roomy. The rudder is a really nice system and very responsive. Overall, a great camping boat!
