    Stay dry, stay cool

Base layers are for cold weather, right? Well, if the idea is to keep you warm, yes. However, a true baselayer keeps you warm by keeping you dry. It's this quality that makes base layers optimal for wear even on the hottest days. Pearl Izumi's Transfer Lite Sleeveless Base Layer is designed to keep you dry and cool with its form-fit and ultra-light fabric.

The Transfer Lite was constructed from a unique knit fabric called Minerale. Its individual yarns have 15 times the surface area of ordinary polyester yarn. This means that it wicks sweat more rapidly. And to deliver proper wicking performance in warmer weather, this efficiency of transport is a must. Understand that the body-hugging fit is important; you want the base layer to act like a second skin, immediately moving moisture to the outer surface of the fabric for rapid evaporation. This keeps you more comfortable by not feeling wet and clammy. You'll find this especially nice if a cool breeze kicks up in an arroyo or during a long descent.

The name of this fabric isn't just for show. Minerale weaves a concoction of bacteria-killing minerals into the Transfer Lite Sleeveless Base Layer, so your cycling clothing won't retain the smell of your eau d'perspiration.

If you're weighing the choice of whether to go with the Transfer Lite Sleeveless Base Layer or the Transfer Lite Short Sleeve Base Layer, the sleeveless design may be more comfortable as a first ply beneath several other upper body pieces, making it as useful in winter as summer.

The Pearl Izumi Transfer Lite Sleeveless Base Layer comes in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and is available in Black or White.

    Very Good Value

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

The fit is perfect. I've used this base layer now in hot and cold weather, and it's very comfortable and moves the moisture as advertised. I think the value is very good for what you get, as is typical in my opinion with Pearl Izumi

    okay but not great

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I have the predecessor to this top that I have enjoyed for several years. I must say that I am a bit disappointed with the latest model, however, as I agree with Jacob below that the fabric is not nearly as soft as my old one. In addition. this top runs small. PI's inconsistent sizing has been driving me nuts lately. For years I wore XLs in everything. Then they started "upsizing" their jerseys and I found myself exchanging things often. In bibs, knicks, and tights, XLs still fit consistently well. However, in jerseys the PRO line race-fit stuff tends to fit well, but Elite pieces run large. My old version of this top is an XL and it fits quite snug, as it should. This latest version in Large is almost too small. I chose to keep it, but I won't buy another. I also have the regular Transfer sleeveless base layer and love that piece. It is a Large and fits perfectly. Frustrating.

Didn't like the fabric on this one - super abrasive and generally felt like it was made of burlap sack. Fit was fine but I would go with an Assos or Giordana if you're looking for higher fabric quality. Tried it on in the house and then issued the return.
