Description

Way better than plastic wrap over your socks

If you've ridden in the cold without protection on your feet, you know that numb toes are painfully distracting when you're hammering up a hill. When you're turning yourself inside out, you should be shouting at the pain in your legs, not in your feet. The Pearl Izumi Select Softshell Shoe Covers will make hard-man winter rides softer.

Resistant to wind and water, the Softshell Shoe Covers will be the best friend that your feet have all winter. Made with Pearl Izumi's supple Softshell material, the cover conforms to your shoe for a form-fitting, aero shape. The race-day fit has been further accentuated by the inclusion of anatomic paneling throughout the cover. A full-length, rear hook and loop closure has been added to help maintain the sleek fit, and to make it a breeze to get the booties on or off. To reduce wear to the foot bed, Pearl Izumi constructed it from a Kevlar knit fabric. This material placement ensures that the bottom of the cover has the same longevity as the upper, because when the foot bed is worn through, the rest of the cover is rendered useless. The Kevlar knit is pliant enough to get your shoes into the covers, but durable enough to resist the wear and tear from clip-in misses and walks to the coffee counter.

The Pearl Izumi Select Softshell Shoe Covers are available in the color Black and come in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

Good weather barrier

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I like the performance and material but the Velcro closure came off of one of the covers. Maybe a one-off defect, but for it to fail after no more than 5 uses is a bit of a disappointment.

I wear a size 39 in Shimano road shoes. The size chart says a small is for less than size 39, while the medium is for 39.5 and greater. What size would you recommend?

Responded on

Buy the medium. I wear size 39 Shimano road shoes and they fit perfectly. They're a little difficult getting on the first few times then stretch out just enough to stay snug but easier to pull on.

How cold are the covers rated - I'd like to understand if I can use the in weather in the 20's?

Responded on

You would want some extra coverage if you're serious about the 20s. Most riders call it quits in the 30-40s. Frostbite becomes a more serious concern in the 20s and below when you factor in wind chill and time exposed.

Love these things

I have worn these now through one very snowy, mucky season now and I have to say I love these covers! They have kept my feet relatively warm and very dry. They are very easy on and off. I have zipper covers and these with Velcro and I will say they both have their advantages but the Velcro on these holds securely and a good amount for adjustment. There has been no interference with the cleats. The material on the base seems durable so far for the little walking around you have to do off the bike.

Sweet Shoe Covers

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These fit very well and are extremely easy to take on an off. The Velcro closures in the rear hold tight and come on and off quickly. You won't be disappointed with these.
