For the best chance to stay cool over long and hot rides, pull on Pearl Izumi's Elite In-R-Cool Bib Shorts. Izumi's Transfer In-R-Cool fabric is treated with Coldblack, providing the balmy-weather-cooling capacity necessary for long hours of summer riding.

Unlike common dark textiles, which absorb heat, Coldblack-treated fabrics are UV-blocking (UPF 50+) and actually reflect the sun's radiant energy. This allows you to avoid overheating during physical activity on hot, sunny days by keeping the surface temperature of the fabric lower. Also keeping you cool is Pearl Izumi's proprietary blend of nylon, elastane, and polyester. This mix results in an engineered outer surface that's textured for enhanced temperature management., Additionally, this breathable knit accelerates moisture transfer away from the skin in order to maintain core comfort. Extra ventilation in the form of direct-vent panels and a mesh upper also provide superior airflow, while ensuring a high level of structure stability that's free from pinching.

For long distance comfort, Pearl Izumi spec's its anatomically-shaped, three-layer 3D Elite chamois. This insert's density varies from a maximum of 13mm to a minimum of seven in order to relieve pressure and permit blood flow where it matters most. The pad is covered with a moisture wicking, four-way stretch fabric that adjusts to your body as you pedal. Additionally, it contains active carbon yarns that assist with thermo-regulation and resist bacteria.

An eight-panel anatomical design provides a lightly compressive fit that maximizes your muscle efficiency, allowing you to spin with consistent power. It also ensures that the Elite In-R-Cool bib shorts provide the greatest degree of mobility by eliminating restriction.

The Pearl Izumi Elite In-R-Cool Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/white, Black/black, Black/true blue, Black/true red, and Black/screaming yellow.

A mixed bag.

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Obviously, whether you like these or not is going to depend on your personal preferences and how these happen to fit your particular physiology. I'm an pretty average 5'9" 170 lb guy. Large is snug and the straps seem a bit tight over the shoulders. I prefer little to no compression and these have more than that. I don' like how tight and narrow the leg cuffs are and feel they cut into my thighs. They have thin little grippers printed on that don't do anything as far as I'm concerned. The colored panel is a separate piece of fabric and has a thick seam that runs across and down the lower front of the thigh and make the leg pooch out a bit when standing due to its limited elasticity. The front of the bib between the straps if very high, about up to the bottom of my ribcage. I prefer it to be around navel level. With effort I can still pull these down low enough to pee. The seams are flat fell (four layers of fabric) so are very thick compared to the much more common flat lock seems, particularly where they end or overlap. I do like the chamois. All that said, they are wearable and I'll keep them, but certainly would not get another pair.

One of my favorite bibs

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I find these to be true to size as I wear the same size in these as I do in Hinicapie, Bellwether, Assos , and Sugoi. They are well made, comfortable and have a good form fitting chamois. Good mid priced bib for training. My max ride in them has been 50 miles and they were great.

Not true to size

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been wearing PI gear almost exclusively for years. This is the first time a medium size has felt this tight. They're useable (I think) but significantly more snug than I'm use to. I realize these are supposed to provide more compression but not THAT much I wouldn't think.

I'll update should my opinion change.
