    Select protection.

We're not prepared to claim that the Pearl Izumi Select Thermal Barrier Jacket has supernatural properties, but we can vouch for its ability to transform from a standalone top for the cool weather of fall, an outer layer for when the temperature gets a little lower, and then as the super domestique of base layers when winter shows up in full force.

Two separate materials spread insulating and weather-resistant properties around the jacket's body. The whole jacket is made of Select Thermal Fleece, which uses its loft and moisture-transferring powers to make cold and wet disappear. Panels of the new Select Barrier WxB fabric on the front and upper arms shine against the overcast elements, bringing a healthy dose of wind resistance and waterproof properties to key areas of the jacket. The material also has a four-way stretch for ease of movement, and the jacket is cut spaciously enough to accommodate additional thermal layering for when the temperatures get low but you're still down for a bike ride.

The seams are fully taped, the full-length front zipper is waterproof and has an internal wind flap, and the rear hem has a drop tail with an elastic drawcord to deny the elements any foothold of ingress. Even the cuffs conspire against the weather with an asymmetrical cut that extends coverage over your gloves to ensure there are no gaps. A single rear pocket with a media cable port afford plenty of storage, and reflective elements help keep you visible in low-light conditions.

The Pearl Izumi Select Thermal Barrier Jacket is available in five sizes ranging from Small to XX-Large in the colors Black, Black/Mykonos blue, Black/screaming yellow, and Black/true red.

    Nice Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

This jacket is typical high quality Pearl Izumi gear. I am 6'1" 42.5" chest/ 195 lbs with a 34 waist and long torso. I believe that I am the absolute limit on this jacket size as it fits perfectly snug with no flapping. Photo is deceiving as the front and sleeves are a shiny material and the back is a stretchy material. One zippered pocket in the rear for a phone or ipod. The sleeves are tailored a bit long, but will be fine while on the bike. No need to size up unless you plan on multi layering. Very nice quality....

    Well rounded fall/winter/spring jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

All and all a pretty good jacket. I'm 5'9, ordered a small, and the core-chest area fits great, though the sleeves are a bit lengthy.

Sleeves are lined with fleece, so perfect jacket for a cool day. If the temperate does heat up you'll have some warm/sweaty arms.

Back of jacket is a stretchy material which fits to your body in the rising position and the back pocket has plenty of storage.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I love this jacket. It is very thin and light yet warm. Everyone is different so temperature rating is difficult but, with a good wicking base layer, I'm comfortable in CT's Fall temps. As the temp drops, the base layer gets heavier. It does breathe extremely well and so, even with wind protection in the front, I can feel the wind a bit. Adding a vest or thin cycling shell is easy and makes this jacket very warm. I usually buy screaming yellow but the red is bright and really good looking and I couldn't pass up the price. Quality is what you'd expect from PI.

Based on the "Pearl Izumi regular fit" size chart. Does this jacket fit true to size? No need to up size or down size?
