Just say 'no' to wind and rain.

No one likes to ride in wind and rain, but sometimes that's all we have to work with — especially in the volatile weather of the transitional seasons. For days when the temperatures don't call for ski-level thermal gear but the wind and rain threaten our extremities, we roll Pearl Izumi's P.R.O. Barrier WxB Shoe Cover and we roll dry. These shoe covers incorporate P.R.O. Barrier WxB fabric on the outside and warm fleece on the inside, a combination that repels water and wind while keeping your feet cozy in temperatures as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

The P.R.O. Barrier's fit has been updated to include Pearl's Mk2 two stage closure, which opens the covers nice and wide to get on, and then seals them up for the snug fit you'd expect from shoe covers. The soles are Kevlar-infused for durability and the wind and water resistant shells have reflective highlights to keep you visible in low-light conditions.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Barier WxB Shoe Covers are available in five sizes ranging from Small to XX-Large in the colors Black and Screaming Yellow. Please note that these shoe covers are best used with external road cleats.

    Warm, light and no zipper

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Needed a new set of shoes covers and picked these up as I've been happy with Pearl Izumi. I've used several times and like the warmth they provide (down to low 30Fs). I didn't,t pay close attention when purchasing so didn't see they had no zipper - instead they use a two step Velcro closure. Kind of awkward but they still work.

    Great, easy to use booties

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

I own a set of toe caps, a set of Neoprene booties, and these. I've found that it's hard to stay warm at 40 degrees in just the toe caps, and that the Neoprene booties get wet and clammy after about 15 minutes. These work really well from 20-40 degrees. They do a great job of keeping my toes warm by keeping the wind and spray off my feet. They also look great. I've paired them up with the Pearl Izumi PRO barrier tights and my legs and feet have been very comfortable.

    good but not great

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I've had these for a few months now and when I first got them I was absolutely in LOVE with them. snug, easy to get on/off, kept the water out from the top (rolled through a few puddles and get water through the sole air vents in my shoes. to be expected. they can't wrap 100% of your shoe). Fast forward a few months. These things have stretched out. I'm between sizes. I wear a 44. I had tried on a part of Larges(41-44) at a LBS and could barely fit them on my shoes but the XLs seemed to fit on just fine without a struggle(44+). Now when I strap the velcro around the back I'm at the very end of the velcro. I've also noticed that the outer layer has some holes in the area of where my shoe buckles are. Possibly from rubbing on my crank arm as I step in/out since I wear these as I commute to/from work. I would give these more stars if they didn't stretch out and they had a more durable outer layer.

    Not waterproof

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

After 20 miles of riding in steady rain, water started seeping in at the toes. By the end of my 54 miles, my feet were soaked.

    Something Special

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Pearl Izumi USA, based near Boulder CO, designs great cold-weather gear. But even in the Pearl Izumi lineup, these PRO Barrier shoe covers are special. W x B means W = waterproof and B = breathable. This is a very hard combo to pull off yet these shoe covers do. Nice.

Application: Medium-weight booties for keeping your feet warm and dry while riding in 38*-65* weather -even in the rain.

Note: The material is med weight (and nicely fleeced on the inside), but these shoe covers will -not- insulate much below 40 degrees. Use heavier booties for riding below 40*.

Sizing: Follow the size chart. I wear a 45 euro in Sidi and Shimano. The XL is the perfect size (right in the middle).

    Never Leave Home Without Them

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These thin shoe covers are surprisingly warm; They keep my feet toasty in temps down to 15 F. I rarely carry rain pants. My rain jacket and these shoe covers are usually enough to keep me warm even if my legs get wet. They are small and light, so I always pack them in my seat bag or jersey pocket for unexpected wind, rain or snow. They are a bit of a chore to stretch over mtn bike shoes, so if there is a question, size up.

These little gems have often made the difference between cutting a ride short; due to icy-cold, wet feet; or completing the ride in comfort regardless of the weather. I even wear them in warmer months for long, high-elevation descents (read chilly!) in the Rocky Mountains.

    WARM and DRY!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I already own several pieces of Pearl Izumi apparel and know they make quality gear. So, I figured I'd try these shoe covers on a whim since they were on sale. After the first couple rides I am pleasantly surprised. I just got back from a damp and drizzly ride, but the feet stayed nice and dry. The interior is made of some nice fleece sort of material that also provides some warmth. I wear a size 45/11.5 shoes and the XL fits them perfectly, nice and snug all the way around. All in all it was a good buy, and highly recommended for this winter!

    Nice and Toasty

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Although the weather hasn't gotten too bad yet my feet had started to get a little cold.... not now! With these booties my feet stay much warmer and they feel like they'll work through the much worse weather that is coming soon.

I wear size 44 SIDI's. Do the sizing for these covers run large or small? As in, should I get the L or XL cover for my shoes?
