Description

Suddenly lobsters look like the geniuses of the sea.

Ripping down the pavement at 30mph can get cold, so reach for the insulated Pearl Izumi Pro Lobster Bike Glove when you need the warmth of a mitten and the dexterity of a glove. A glove leaves you fingers alone to fend for themselves in the chill, and a mitten makes it almost impossible to simultaneously brake AND hold onto your bars. Enter the Lobster Glove, which features a durable leather palm and a waterproof insert to fend off the gnarliest riding conditions from late fall until early spring.

  • P.R.O Softshell material with a waterproof insert resists wind and water in order to offer your hands light protection from the elements
  • Primaloft insulation and fleece lining keep your fingers warm without making your gloves bulky
  • Pittards WR 100X Natural Carbon Leather palm has a flexible feel and extremely durable finish
  • Both left and right glove feature a soft fleece wipe for taking care of the occasional, unexpected runny nose

When the going gets cold, go lobster.

I loathe the trainer. Not even sipping on a cold brew during an indoor spin could make me enjoy the experience of pedaling on that stupid fluid roller.

So out into the cold Utah I went to spin on some real roads, snow be damned. I searched and purchased several gloves before wiser minds steered me towards the lobster style for the coldest of riding days. This is clearly the way to go for winter riding; leaving fingers to fend for themselves in standard gloves simply does not do the trick.

With these babies, I could easily tackle temps in the 20s. Low teens probably merit the use of an additional liner to keep those digits toasty, but still doable. The lobster style does take some getting used to when operating your brakes/shifters, however the benefits of warmth will make this an easy adjustment for you. Highly recommended.

The solution to cold hands!

I tried a few different gloves and combinations of gloves early in the season and thought maybe you just had to get used to having frozen fingers. That is not the case once I finally got these! I bought my normal glove size, large, and they are a little big but not too floppy and extra space is necessary for insulation, plus it allows enough space for another base glove if the weather ever got crazy cold! I have worn these solo in low teens and twenties and my fingers may not have been toasty the whole time but they definitely were not uncomfortable. They are warm without thick insulation so i still have good grip and road feel. The inner fleece not these things is ridiculously soft too!

My Go-to Glove

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been wearing the older model of Pearl Izumi's lobster gloves and can't say enough about them. I have chronically cold extremities and have trouble keep my hands warm even in 40 degree weather. These gloves are perfect for me because they allow me to have some dexterity, but not at the cost of warmth. Biking is not the only purpose I use these for - XC skiing, dog walking...you name it. The fleece on the glove it perfect for wiping snot-rockets...don't kid yourself - we all do this! I've had no problem washing them either. They're still in great condition and I;ve beat them up pretty good for over two years now.

Crustacean or not, you'll stay warm

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Who cares if you feel a tad ridiculous while wearing these things, they'll keep you warm, they do a great job keeping your hands dry, and they're super soft and cozy on the inside.

I was riding in sub-freezing temps and didn't have a warmth problem at all.

Very nice

Very warm. Super soft so dexterity is very good. The velcro wrist closure is really really really hard to undo (and designed so that the cuffs are to go inside your jacket sleeve, not outside, which I personally liked) and a royal pain but otherwise these are wonderful.

Early Christmas Present

My wife and I had plans for a ride this morning. It was cooler than expected so I broke out the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Lobster Gloves I bought us for Christmas. It was in the low 40's and these performed perfectly. My wife has cold hands all the time (even in the summer) and they were actually sweating on our ride. These gloves would easily hold up in much colder temperatures. If you're not a fan of cold hands I highly recommend you get a pair. The lobster design is a little awkward at first but I quickly got accustomed to them. Shifting wasn't a problem and there was more than enough dexterity. If I had any negative feedback it would be that the reflective stickers were already coming off of both of our gloves. As a consumer of quite a bit of gear from Pearl Izumi I was suprised that these would get past inspection. I give the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Lobster Gloves 4 1/2 stars only because of the lack of quality control.

Super Warm

These gloves are awesome. They block the freezing wind, plus my pinky isn't left on its own to freeze. These are the best winter riding gloves I have ever used.

Superb Gloves

Got these gloves for the winter time and they are excellent! Definitely built for the coldest of winds and even snow. The only issue that I can think of is that the finger cushioning is a little too thick and can make shifting a little difficult. Other than that, they are an excellent glove that will for sure save your hands from the cold!
