Description

Keep riding.

How many times have you taken your rain jacket when really all you needed was your wind breaker; or worse, taken your wind breaker when you really needed your rain cape? The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Aero Jacket will make it so that you no longer need to choose between one or the other form of protection. The Aero Jacket is a highly technical wind jacket with full stretch to eliminate that noisy flapping effect which accompanies a normal wind breaker. But since it is made from the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Softshell Lite material, it also provides not only amazing protection against rainy weather, but is supremely easy to stuff into your jersey pocket.

You may suspect that a jacket which effectively protects you from the wind and rain will also become much too hot and moist on the inside. Fear not, the Aero Jacket will surprise you pleasantly on that score. Direct-Vent panels have been built into the jacket to make sure that any heat buildup can escape quickly. The full length zipper comes with the Pearl Izumi draft flap and zipper garage so that the cold winds will not penetrate through to your under-layers. It also includes a nicely tapered collar which will give the back of your neck a touch more protection while freeing up the space directly below your chin. With your safety in mind, they have included multiple reflective elements to keep you visible even after dusk.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Aero Jacket is available in Black/Black, True Red/Black and White/Black color combinations. It comes in sizes X-Small through XX-Large.

  • Form fit eliminates obnoxious flapping on fast descents
  • Direct-Vent panels let you blow off body heat without sacrificing weather protection
  • Reflective material makes you more visible in low light
  • Full-length draft flap prevents icy wind from sneaking in

Great wind jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I finally upgraded from a 10 year old wind jacket to this model. It's form fitting with an elastic material that snugs close to your body instead of flapping around like a parachute. It breathes pretty well, too. However, this is not a rain jacket and not what it is intended for. I use it for long descents or for rides when I know it will be very cold early on and then gradually warming. Stores easily and compactly in a jersey pocket. Fit is good - I wear a size small and I am 5'9" and 140 lbs. Sleeves are a little long but better than too short.

Great jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits snug, not billowy. With a jersey and arm warmers, this jacket is comfortable into the 30's. I've used it on the road and trails and love it! It has become my go-to jacket for cool, damp weather.

Love love love this jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love love love this jacket. I have been wearing it over an Oakley Chop Chop Tank, riding in temps in the low 50s in the early morning, and it has been perfect. It handled a light rain with ease and shrugs off wind.

The snug fit and soft fabric are really the highlights for me. Highly recommended, especially on sale.

Pretty Impressive

I'm 6'4 / 195lb

I just moved to Portland and was seeking a good deal on an outer layer. I may have assumed too much by expecting this top to endure at 40 mile ride in the constant rain. I did not stay dry but this is not a water proof jacket.

During that ride, I still stayed very warm. This material is truly incredible and I definitely recommend it for any chilly ride that isn't a downpour. Even when saturated, I was still protected from the freezing wind.

I'm only returning it because I can't afford to keep it and buy another waterproof top [which is what I need most].

Very good fit

Perfect fit. Negative thing is no good transpiration. The sweat is around the arms and back so is neceesary down the zipper a lot of times. Bad thing no pocket.

How transparent is this jacket - can you tell I'm wearing a black jersey/bibs/baselayer under the flash all-white jacket?

If you look closely at the pic of the white version above, you'll notice a good amount of light coming through the 'tail' of this jacket; so it seems that black may well show somewhat through this particular jacket...

sweet jacket

i just received this jacket along with another. This is a superb fitting jacket, because its fabric is stretchy. It weights very little and packs very small, easily fitting into my jersey pocket. it has built in vents which i like very much.

the jacket doesn't have any pockets so i can't store it in one of its own pockets, a feature i miss.

How small does this jacket pack, can it be packed into its own pocket?

Best Answer Responded on

There doesn't appear to be any side pockets! The description states it's packable enough to fit in a 'jersey' pocket, but that's all it says about pockets. Pretty light weight and packable...for storing in jersey or hydration pack pocket.

Nice Jacket

Very comforable, good wind protection. Normally go for aero sizing, but went up one size for layering in colder conditions. Would highly recommend this jacket.

This jacket is going to get you through solid blast of weather. It's not a rain jacket, but it's a lightweight, breathable barrier piece that will definitely carry you through some weather; it has a lot of elasticity in the fabric, so it doesn't flap around like other jackets can.
A totally killer piece!

Hey I have the same height and weight and I tried on the medium in the store and it fit me perfect.

I'm 5'11"/152lbs and the medium fits nicely. The medium on me is plenty roomy. Didn't have a small to compare it with.

How accurate is the sizing for these jackets. I have a 46" chest and can't decide on the XL, or XXL.....any advice?

This jacket has amazing stretch so I'd go with the XL. Enjoy!

Best Answer Responded on

Go with the XL. The great thing about Pearl Izumi that I cn't say for any other brand I use is that everything fits consistantly according to the size chart. Once you find your size you can be confident to order that size in the future without worry.

What is the recommended temperature range for this jacket?

Responded on

Depends on how hot/cold you run and how hard you are working. Its not insulated at all but is completely windproof and breathable. If you layer up underneath its as warm as you want it to be.

Enjoy!

Aero stretch, packability = Awesome.

The PI go to piece for packability and lightweight protection!

*Also- extremely good heat managment due to the direct vent panels

Lighweight, windproof, with stretch

This is an awesome piece for riders who want a lightweight, packable, windproof jacket that doesn't flap in the wind and is more aerodynamic. Its so stretchy that we were able to tighten up the fit enough to eliminate noise without compromising fit.

Responded on

I agree and this is a great jacket.

Nice work Pearl

Responded on

This is my go to piece in fall and spring.

After a 40 mile ride in this jacket the other day it solidified my opinion that this jacket is unbeatable for packability and protection.

And no flapping even at 40mph+ = aero and awesome!
