Something new in the world of trail running: a midsole with a fluid heel-forefoot height.

Step onto the trail with a little extra stability and protection when you're wearing the Pearl Izumi Women's EM Trail M 2 Trail Running Shoe. As you float down rock-peppered trail and descend steep gullies, this stability shoe helps your foot stay centered by utilizing a combination of soft foam cushioning and a bi-lateral stability support located under your midfoot. One of the most unique features of this shoe is the E:Motion midsole, a bit of engineering that gives this shoe a dynamic drop (heel-forefoot height) that's lower at initial contact and higher when you roll off your toes. E:Motion results in a more fluid transition from heel to toe and a more natural stride when you're picking your way through technical, off-road terrain. For training, racing, or everyday running, this stability shoe helps you flow across miles of trail without skipping a beat.

    • Seamless construction gives the upper a comfortable feel against the foot
    • Perforated SBR tongue foam feels comfortable against your foot and won't absorb water
    • Dynamic Offset E:Motion midsole changes from 4mm at contact to 7.5mm at mid-stance to smooth out every stride
    • E:Motion midsole is designed to provide the most cushioning and the broadest platform of any Pearl Izumi running shoe for maximum pronation stability
    • 1:1 Energy Foam cushions the forefoot and offers explosive rebound for toe-off
    • 1:1 Shock Absorption Foam absorbs and diffuses impact at the heel
    • Low to moderate, 4-7.5mm drop (heel-forefoot offset) positions your heel so its nearly level with your forefoot, resulting in a more natural foot position than traditional running shoe designs
    • Bi-lateral stability support keeps you centered at the midfoot
    • Forefoot rock plate provides additional protection from hazards and debris on the trail
    • Aggressive, multi-directional carbon rubber outsole offers excellent traction on loose trails and uneven, off-road terrain

not your run of the mill running shoe

This was my first time trying Pearl Izumis, and I thought since I run in the park a lot more than I run on flat roads, this trail model would be the right kind of shoe, but I was wrong. I wanted to love these shoes as they look really cool but they just felt odd on my feet. They have a peculiar kind of tilt, which I couldn't get over. Maybe once breaks them in over time and they feel more natural. I'm still giving it 4 starts because the shoes seem really nicely made, and I'm pretty sure they're designed with a specific use in mind, and perhaps for specific kinds of steps or strides, so it wasn't a flaw of the shoes that they didn't work for me.

    Comfortable after "breaking in"

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:Runs small

I've worn these for both hiking and running on gravel/paved trails. They do run a bit small but they don't have size 10.5. But after a few wearings they seemed to stretch a bit and I no longer feel they are as tight (esp with my larger right foot). I did notice that after a hike my feet hurt (because they tend to swell in warmer weather) so I won't wear them for longer hikes anymore. The arch support is good and I love the laces. They don't come untied and they're easy to adjust if you want a slightly looser fit (which is what I had to do in the beginning). I have a narrow foot and I'd say they do well with narrow feet. My advice is buy half a size larger if you can. I would have to go up a full size to an 11. I'm not sure that I would pay full price for them but I got them at 50% off so I think that was a good deal. My joints have responded well to these shoes. No achy feet (other than the one hike) and my knees/hips are not hurting.

    Nice to feel sure footed!

I have a pretty flat foot, or over-pronated foot. It doesn't bother me much when I'm running on the road, or flat surfaces. But it does when I'm trail running. My knees will twist in, if I hit a rock or uneven slope.

I was looking for a trail shoe with good traction, so I don't slip coming down hill, and for some arch support. Well, I found it. I was a little resisant to this shoe, because I run in zero drop shoes, and I don't ever heel strike. However, i have been very fast and agile in this M2. It provides a nice solid foundation, for moving quickly over ever changing and rocky terrain. Also, I carry a pack with a 2 liter hydration bladder, and they still feel supportive, even with the extra weight.

I'm doing four stars, because I haven't had them for over 6 months. I'm interested to see how they hold up. So, far I've hiked, run, taken them through streams and mud and they barely looked used at all.

My only issue is not really applicable, to these. They have been very slippery, when crossing deep streams with wet rocks. But, these aren't really intended for that, so it's not a fair judgement.

I am either a 8.5 or 9.0 in shoes. The 9.0 fits great!

    Best Shoe Ever!

These shoes are simply amazing. I wear them for trail runs, road runs, and just walking around. I never want to take them off. The dual stability gives you security and protection without adding pressure or changing the way you run. The dynamic sole adds to the stability but also maximizes its comfort. I cannot emphasize enough how comfortable this are. The shoe is pretty flat, which I like, but know that some don't. I have super narrow, boney feet with a moderate arch. Finding running shoes is tough and I've had my share of doozies, but these are perfect. Never buying another shoe! Not only do I use these shoes but while I worked in an outdoors store, these were the most popular shoes we sold. As with most running shoes, you want to size up a half size from your normal street size. I am normally a 6.5 and the 7 is perfect.

I like these shoes and the fit for my foot, which is flat. they have a nice wider flat feeling base.(similar to my cascadia) However on the trail the heel felt a bit big so I had to use the top eye on the lace system to keep heel from slipping.

The shoes don't have a super stable or hard feel to them at all, so they are a bit sketchy on very rocky, technical terrain. But most people are switching to a minimalist shoe so I think they will like this shoe. I have used them on trails a few times and so far I can recommend them! I did have to get a 1/2 size bigger than my normal street shoe size.
