Description

Gives you foot protection, fluid motion, and all the stability needed for nasty terrain.

Trail runners in need of stability and protection need look no further than the Pearl Izumi Men's EM Trail N 2 Trail Running Shoe. On top, this shoe offers a smooth, seamless upper, and beneath your foot, you're treated to foam cushioning that returns energy, an aggressive outsole, and a rigid plate that protects your forefoot from rocks and roots. One of the most unique features of this stability shoe is the E:Motion technology, a bit of engineering that gives this shoe a dynamic drop (heel-forefoot height) that starts off low and gets higher as you toe-off which leads to a fluid, natural gait. This shoe is ideal for training, racing, or everyday running on rough mountain trails or anywhere out beyond city streets.

  • Seamless construction gives the upper a comfortable feel against the foot
  • Perforated SBR tongue foam feels comfortable against your foot and won't absorb water
  • Dynamic Offset E:Motion midsole changes from 4mm at contact to 7.5mm at mid-stance to smooth out every stride
  • E:Motion midsole is designed to provide the most cushioning and the broadest platform of any Pearl Izumi shoe for maximum pronation stability
  • 1:1 Energy Foam cushions the forefoot and offers explosive rebound for toe-off
  • 1:1 Shock Absorption Foam absorbs and diffuses impact at the heel
  • Low to moderate, 4-7.5mm drop (heel-forefoot offset) positions your heel so its nearly level with your forefoot, resulting in a more natural foot position than traditional running shoe designs
  • Bi-lateral stability support keeps you centered at the midfoot
  • Forefoot rock plate provides additional protection from hazards and debris on the trail
  • Aggressive, multi-directional carbon rubber outsole offers excellent traction on loose trails and uneven, off-road terrain

After 26miles trail race

After 26miles trail race

Nice work Pearl Izumi, I ran my first 26miles trail race with these shoes, and the experience was great!

After ~4 months of using, some additional pros / cons:

Pros.
- Last week I ran a 26miles race, the day was super hot, also I ran the whole race with my feet wet, at the end of the day NOT a single blister.
- Really breathable and dries very quickly
- Really, really love the laces
- Very well constructed, I run 4 - 5 times per week( ~60 miles per week), so far shoes looks and feel Ok.

Cons.
- I'll give a 2 of 5 to the traction on anything slippery (wet rocks or wet road)

5 5

Just what I was hoping for.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I run off road triathlons (xterra's) in these. Every season I get a new shoe and have to go through a "break in" period where I get blisters to toughen up various hot spots. See, I don't use socks to make transitions faster. The seamless construction on the interior of these PI's has me sold. Almost half way through the season and not a single blister. The traction isn't as burly as some other shoes I've used but the comfort beats them all. I like the wider toe box as well. Nice work Pearl.

My first PI shoes, happy panda!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

After using the shoes in only a couple of training runs, (~25 miles - 1 week of short runs) I have some comments about the PI M2:

- I live in Costa Rica, so, for hot or warm climate its perfect, because are really breathable and dries very quickly.
- The seamless construction is awesome, fit and feel great.
- The shoes are pretty light, enough that I can feel the difference between these and my Mizuno Wave Ascend.
- These shoes literally fit like a glove the first time I put them on. There was virtually no break-in period and I have not had any blisters from wearing them. Of course, this may not apply to everyone since we all have different feet, but these shoes fit perfectly.
- Decent grip on a variety of terrain and the rockplate will save your feet.
- Love the laces
- I've only put about ~25 miles on them based on a healthy transition period for me, so can't speak too much about the durability, but they appear to be very well constructed.

The reason i give them 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the traction on anything slippery (wet rocks or wet road) and I would like more toe box protection.

Also, I'm a standard size 9.5 in just about all shoes but needed this in 10.5. They fit fine in 10.5.

Overall I'm very satisfied, and Yes, I recommend this product.

I will update later this after I get a few hundred miles on them, I'm really excited on these for now.

My first PI shoes, happy panda!

Hey, im wondering how true to size these...

Hey, im wondering how true to size these shoes are? Im usually a 10.5 but they only have 10 and 11. Wondering if theyre a bit big or small to get the other size.

Responded on

They seem to be a quarter size bigger possibly. I wear 8.5 and I bought 8.5. They feel roomy in the toe box, but my feet didn't really slide forward as I would expect when bombing downhills. Not sure if this quite helps though.

Best Answer Responded on

This particular shoe, I would order 1/2 or a full size larger.

As a size reference, I normally wear 9.5 (New Balance or Asics), but I got a 10.5 and fits and works really well.

Good review

The comments on this video have helped me to decide. Looking forward to run with this shoes!

Great shoe for longer runs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

If you're going out for 2 plus hours, these really start to shine. The rock plate and the smooth ride keep your feet from feeling like they just went through a tenderizer.

The grip and lugs are aggressive enough to make climbing and especially technical descent feel very stable. Gives you the confidence to push the descents.
