Peak Performance knows how to make a technical pant. These pants fit fantastically, are extremely comfortable, and look amazing. They breath well on hot hikes and are holding up well to a lot of camp/hike/hunting abuse. I have taken these out on many expeditions and they're a fantastic pant for any application.
Good looks, functionality, but tricky fitting
During my research for a new hiking/backpacking pants, the Dex Zip-off pants seemed like one of the better looking hiking pants that I could find that also had the versatility of being convertible. And it is exactly that. The left thigh pocket is held in place by a clip button that is positioned not at center but towards your inner thigh, so it holds the flap down but makes it easy to store/access items. The thigh pocket on the right is a zippered pocket. The fabric is LIGHT (but not in a cheap way), pretty breathable, smooth against the skin, and water resistant (but I wouldn't use it as a dedicated rain pants though) and the combination of light weight and articulated knees do seem to help the movement. The zip-off function is nice in its versatility, but in execution, it's bit of a pain to zip the leggings back on while you have the pants on (but I'd say no more so than other comparable models). The fit actually doesn't work well for me because my waist is 31 to 32" and that seems to be between how the small and medium run in this model. In fact, I'd say in mediums, the waist runs a bit large for how it's cut for the legs. Hence, I do have to use a belt which i hate cause it just means unnecessary weight (and I don't don't like wearing belts when I don't tuck my hiking shirts in). It's hard to criticize it for the fit, since it comes with the territory of pants that run in small, medium, large ,etc. I probably wouldn't buy them again...for the money, I'd ideally like to get a pair that fits me without needing a belt.
Sweet Pants, sizing is a bit off
I wear 32/32. The medium requires a belt and the small is too tight. I can't wear the mediums backpacking. A belt under a hip belt = bad idea, and without a belt they'll just fall off. I wish they had an adjustable velcro waist strap. But if you're not on the edge of the sizing chart these pants are awesome!
