Combine a stretchy softshell with high-loft synthetic insulation and you have a warm, functional shell layer for active winter pursuits. More specifically, you have the Patagonia Men’s Winter Sun Jacket. From athletic ski tours to a few pitches of waterfall ice, the Winter Sun’s stitch-free shell resists wind and water while a hidden stretch panel on the back increases mobility. The PrimaLoft Eco insulation warms even when wet and makes for high compressibility when it’s in your pack.

Bottom Line: Feel the warmth of the Winter Sun.

I'm thinking either Patagonia's Winter Sun jacket or Arc'teryx's Easyrider jacket for a solid, warm, general purpose softshell jacket for late fall - winter - early spring. Any suggestions on which one??

all the best wrapped into one jacket

my quest for the perfect jacket has been like searching for the holy grail or something.....it really is ridiculous.....with all the jackets out there, i would think that there'd be one that nears perfection - well this jacket is the nearest i've come. it's light and warm - the fit is perfect (i'm 5'9, 155lbs and bought the small) - i can wear a t-shirt and the jacket doesn't look baggy, and i can layer substanially and not look like a puffer fish. my favorite aspect is the colloar - it is ROOMY ENOUCH SO I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'M BEING CHOKED WHEN IT IS ZIPPED UP. i'm not a fan of the look of hoods, and the basic high collar/comfortable collar on the jacket rocks. It's sharp around town, and on the slopes. It has quailty primaloft insulation. I used to think i needed a jacket with gore-tex, but i've learned through life's experiences that for my purposes, i would only need that type of protection less than 1% of the time. To sum it up.....this jacket is sweet. It's basic design lends highly to it's comfort, functionality, and style.

I am looking for a softshell jacket to wear in the winter. I

I am looking for a softshell jacket to wear in the winter. I am sick of wearing fleece that attracts everything under the sun and is impossible to keep lint off. I want the softshell to be insulated to wear in temps from 15 - 40 degrees. Would this jacket work well, or does it lack enough insulation or is it to thin to sustain lower temperatures? If not this jacket, can anyone recommend another?

The Winter Sun would be a great piece for you for sure. It could be worn in the temperature range you're looking for with just base layer underneath. Primaloft's the best insulation out there, and the Patagonia construction on the soft shell is top notch.

I love this jacket

I was looking for something warm enough to get me through Maryland winters without the bulk and superfluous features of most other winter jackets. The Winter Sun is exactly what I was looking for. It is simple, stylish, and comfortable. Considering how thin and light it is, similar a windbreaker, the Winter Sun keeps my torso warm and insulated when temps drop to the twenties. My favorite feature is the super soft felt interior of the collar. It also has a few discreet and convenient zip pockets on the chest and shoulders. I never write online reviews but I love this product so much I had to gush. If you don't mind spending $300 on a jacket you will not be disappointed.
