Patagonia Wavefarer II Board Short - Men's - 2008 BCS

These shorts poof out more than I like. Sort of like 80s lifeguard shorts from that show featering the 'Hoff.

I'm dropping my review from 5 to 3 stars, because the new version of these shorts that I just got is not nearly as nice as the older ones. They've gotten rid of the comfy soft web lining to the waistband, and the cut of the shorts is now much bigger, longer, and baggier. Not nearly as comfortable and not nearly as flattering. I don't know if this is a change in style or if Patagonia is giving in to the broadening of American backsides, but it's pretty disappointing. I'm returning the new shorts and will just hope that my old ones, which I love, last forever.

Believe it or not, these are the best backpacking shorts I've ever worn. They're durable, they dry quickly, they fit comfortably and are stylish, and the low profile waistband with drawstring means there's no belt or loops digging into you under your hip belt. They've even got a DWR finish to keep off light precipitation. The single pocket is just big enough to hold a cliff bar and my car key, which is all I ever use a pocket for anyway--the multiple zippered pockets on most trail shorts are overkill that just add weight, as far as I'm concerned. The only drawback is the lack of a zippered fly, but I can live with that. I'm definitely getting another pair. (Oh, and they're great for the beach, too.)

I bought these for my boyfriend and he loves them. He is very picky about his shorts! The only complaint that he has, is that he wishes they hit him right below the knee and they hit him mid knee. He loves them though.
