Description

Freedom of movement meets weather protection.

From the park to those powder-capped peaks, the Patagonia Men's Untracked Jacket keeps you skiing comfortably. The Gore-Tex 3-layer membrane, fully taped seams, and watertight zippers keep you dry during nasty winter storms and block wind when you're waiting for your buddies at the top of the resort. Its brushed polyester lining slides over mid-layers and baselayers with ease. A relaxed fit leaves plenty of room for as many insulating layers that you'd like, and you'll still have enough room to move freely.

The Untracked features underarm venting to boost airflow during an intense ride in the terrain park. Its low-profile powder skirt rotates with your twists and bendss. A webbing loop at the back of the skirt allows you to connect any Patagonia pant to this jacket. The hood slides over a helmet with ease, or you can cinch it tightly across your head thanks to the innovative Touch Point System cord locks. The low-profile cuffs have a pleated gusset to slide over or under your gloves with ease.

Ready for whatever you throw at it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 10"
    Weight: 145 lbs
    Size Purchased: Small

This is a perfect jacket for anyone spending time between the resort and the backcountry. I got the whole untracked jacket and pants combo, and I will say it is some of the best gear I have ever used. I had a tough time choosing between the small and medium. I went with a small eventually because the powder skirt fit a little bit better and it is still good for layering (though, no huge puffy down vests). Be warned too, that this jacket does run a little longer than most of Patagonia's stuff. It's not like a dress or anything, but maybe a couple inches that gives it more of a free-ride feel rather than a back-country, skin tight build.

I am an avid area skier, but also dabble in the backcountry with an AT setup. Either way, I am usually wearing a pack, and Patagonia did an awesome job designing the chest pocket that can be accessed with a pack on. With pretty gigantic pit zips, it is easy to cool down while hitting the bumps or skinning up for another lap.

However, one thing I would like to see is a slightly bigger hood that fits over a ski helmet a little better. It's possible to get it over the helmet, but the movement is incredibly restricted, unlike the Arc'teryx jacket I also own. It's possible that Patagonia fixed this, since my model is a couple years old.

Like most jackets, after a while wear and tear does start to show. The velcro on the cuff of the sleeve started to peel off from the jacket. Patagonia is one of my favorite gear companies because of their policy with repairs. Not only did they fix the sleeve for free, but they did an ample job trying to prevent the same thing from happening again on either side of the jacket.

This is very much a shell even with the polyester lining (a nice touch, if you're wearing it around town). If you're looking for an insulated jacket, maybe try the Primo from Patagonia.

One other thing about this jacket, it will snap heads. Particularly with the vibrant purple that I currently rock. Either way, you are sure to get compliments because it is just a good looking jacket. If you enjoy ladies skiing by saying things like "nice Patagucci," you will love this jacket. Either way, you really can't go wrong.

just picked up, loving it so far

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

I picked this jacket up as a replacement for my put-through-the-wringer NAU Asylum jacket. It's really well put together. I love the blue color. It's quite waterproof, and the gore-tex is working wonderfully. I'm taking it skiing on Friday and will report back with how it fares in skiing conditions, but I've got a good feeling about it. It's a fairly simple design, and that's a good thing. really clean lines. My only gripe would be that i wish it was a bit wider in the hips- it's very relaxed in fit as far as the upper body is concerned, but the hips are a bit tight on me. I also wish there were a few stretch inserts. that being said, I'm excited to take it for a spin.

great initial impressions

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

When I first received this jacket I was a little disappointed in the fact that is was a relaxed fit and seemed to be loose. I am 6'01" and about 190 lbs. I prefer a more athletic cut but Patagonia says they are not really making many coats in a regular fit this year. I ordered a medium but it was too tight. I threw on some layers under the large and realized it was just the right size and left some room to move. The zippers are high quality as is to be expected from a top end jacket. The pit zips are nice, and the powder skirt seems sufficient. I will be using this for carving corduroy as well as hitting the backcountry. I will update this after a few times out. This seems to be a great jacket, I would have liked a two way zipper for touring.

What is the center back length of a medium?

the( best) jacket of them all? ,probably

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

ooooooook,
mountian hardware snotastic
mountain hardware seraction
salomon shadow.
arcteryx alpha SV
prob pretty hard to go past any of these and thats what is sitting on my rack right now.
each of them are peerless for quality and performance.
ud take each and every one of these in a heartbeat and long for nothing esle.........that is unless u didnt try this one on..,
then it changes everything!
XL size. ( im inbetween XL and XXL in prtty much every thing)
fit...relaxed. patagonia make good size gear for decent size fellas im 6'0 220 with quite broad shoulders ,so gear ,esp jackets for me are very hard to get the right fit, that is until this one ,the differnce in feel is just. oh my god this is perfect.
its roomy but not uberbaggy, its not massively long sleeved not roomy enough to put another person inside. just absolutely perfect.
materials well they dont need speaking about
features on this are super. pockets inside are romy enough for goggles , a gaitor, thres a small inside ipod/ipad phone with a hole for earplug cables. the outside pocket is unreal it runs diagonal accross the elft chest andi s BIG, big enough for anything ud think to put in it,sandwiches, gaitor , gloves, small fury creatures, no probs..
hood is perfect. jacket lenght is perfect. bit longer than the arxteryx, and the length of the chin /zip guard is perfect.
with enough room not to choke u with a helmet on.
colour is awsome , i have the purple Yorder one, best aspect tho is the slightyl warmer style , they have added some kind of micro thin insulation in it . it makes it slightly hreavier, but not so much u notice it vs most others.. (unless u put on the seraction , then u notice it ,that one is rediculously light! )
Plus they put the left arm zip on the wrist nt the upper arm so u can acutally use the damn thing and open it.
seriosuly tho i cant ask for more.
take me off im done with jacket shopping !

I've been using this jacket since the beginning of the season and finally feel I'm ready to review it. I use it touring and have had it out on dry days, wet days, warm days, and cold days. The gore-tex keeps you dry and the pit zips dump heat as well as any I've used. The fabric has a nice soft feel to it which is a big difference compared to the primo I use to tour in. So far it has been just as durable as any other patagonia outwear I've used, being whipped with trees on skinny out tracks isn't going to touch you. The hip pockets seem a bit smaller than other jackets I've used, just big enough for an iphone with a case. The chest pocket has plenty of room though. I like the drawstring on the hood for those windy days and can't comment on the powder skirt as I wear bibs. I'm 5'8" 150lb and wear the medium. Comfortable fit when wearing my puffy underneath with beacon as well. Overall I think this jacket is well worth the price tag.

I am about to pull the trigger on this...

I am about to pull the trigger on this suit or a comparable one. Is this Jacket/Pant combo similar to the Arcteryx Sabre SV Jacket/Pant combo? I feel like it's just aesthetics and may just have to flip a coin. Thanks

The Untracked a is a sweet new jacket from Patagonia. 3 layer Gore shell that is softer and quieter than a traditional 3 layers, with a flannel backed interior for a little extra warmth and comfort. Relaxed fit, waterproof zippers throughout, and a powder skirt that tacks into any Patagonia pant.

Purple Swag

I just got this coat and have not had the opportunity to use it but I absolutely love it from my first impressions! The purple is very vibrant and royal looking. its a sharp color that I really love. The construction is top notch (per usual w/ patagonia). Id say its biggest downside is that it doesnt have wrist gaiters. The snow skirt is minimal and i am a bit skeptical on it, but we'll see how it performs when the deep stuff comes! overall, very happy with this purchase.

I'm 6'1 and purchased the large. It fits true to patagonia sizing but has a roomier fit. I wouldnt say that it runs big in the arms or length but its definitely a more freestyle, loose fitting jacket
