The best!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

As a backcountry guide & photographer I put my gear through hell, clocking 100+ days of mountain use and probably another 50+ of lifestyle or other outdoor activities. And this jacket looks brand new (aside from a tiny patch of duct tap due to an animal run in - my fault). Patagonia knows where its at, always quality.

so warm!

and so lightweight! nicely packed into the stuff sack and barely takes up any space. perfect for backpacking and pretty much everything else!

Uh-mazing!

I've now worn this snowshoeing, skiing in blizzard-like conditions and walking around town. Despite the jacket being a little damp after the "blizzard", it dried overnight and kept me dry while I was out in the powder. It weighs next to nothing and I take it with me everywhere I go. If it's below let's say 30 degrees and you're not moving or if you're downhill skiing, you'll want a good fleece and base layer, but with baselayers intact this kept me nice and toasty. It does run a little big, so I'd go for one size down than you'd normally purchase.

Nice for down

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I got this for my wife as a Christmas gift. She wanted a warm and compressible insulation layer for backpacking, rest stops on snowshoe outings, down time on bike trips, etc. She liked the fit of this jacket, and thought the pockets and hood were well thought out. However, she wanted synthetic insulation and chose the gift behind door #2 - a Rab Xenon (Primaloft). If you can work with down the Ultralight is light and compressible, looks like a good choice.

My New Go-To

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a love/hate relationship with the cold but with this jacket it is all love. This jacket is so warm but also can be worn on the milder days. I am 5'7" and 125 pounds and I got the small. It fits great. It isn't too short and I love how long the arms are. I am able to wear a jacket underneath it or a coat over it. Definitely get the one with the hood. Such a good purchase!

Slim & trim warmth

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was looking for a slim down jacket to slip under a shell/leather bomber, and I think this will do the trick. I've only just got it, so we'll have to see how warm it is. I can't believe how small it packs - should be great for travel.

wear every day

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I now have these jackets in many colors because I wear them every day, practically year-round, in Virginia and Colorado. We call them trash bag jackets, but they really don't look that bad...

Ultralight Down on The Grand!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Took this up the Grand Teton a couple weekends ago, saved me on the blustery ascent and cozy layer for base camp as the sun set.

Warmth without the weight. Love it!

This has become my newest and fave go to. It's got 800 fill power and still stuffs down to the size of soda can. It goes into every pack that I have and has kept me warm on many a night around a fire. This piece is the ultimate go to- also works great as a layer under my ski shells- just layer with a heavy baselayer for really cold days and you'll be happy all day long!

AMAZING!

This jacket is amazing! It keeps you so warm and it is VERY light weight. It even has it's own stuff sack so you can pack it anywhere. Runs true to size.

Hands 'down' best jacket ever

Hands 'down' the best jacket ever. I work on Mt. Hood all summer long as a ski coach. I wore this jacket everyday and it became a must have. It's lightweight but warm. It's protective from the wind and easy to pack in your bag, as it stuffs down in it's stuff sack. I honestly lived in this jacket and only wore a light tshirt on warm days or long underwear shirt on cold days underneath it. I will never leave for the mountain without it.

Loves it

Got this for my wife and she loves it - not too warm and not too bulky - perfect for late autumn and early spring

Responded on

Per my wife the Patagonia Down Sweater is warmer.

Responded on

the down sweater is warmer- this one has a higher fill power so it uses less feathers but it is also 9.3 oz vs the down sweater 11.3 oz.

How is the sizing on this? does it run small or large? can you fit a layer underneath and use a hard shell on top?

Responded on

It seems to run smaller than the down sweater so take that into consideration with your base layer thickness. A hard shell over the top should not be a problem.

Responded on

I have this. He's right on. And for women, sizing is exact on. Fit's trimmer, and longer in the arms and body, than the reg down sweater.

Well designed, Not the warmest.

A well designed jacket. However, I care more about warmth than weight and it's not nearly as warm as the Patagonia's Down Sweater so I went with the sweater instead.

Patagonia is an awesome company that tries to minimize their environmental impact and ensure humane conditions for factory workers and the geese used for the down as much as possible. It might be worth staying with Patagonia products for those reasons alone. But if you're willing to consider a different brand, I felt the Stoic Hadron Down Anorak jacket was warmer for the weight.
