Sizing Changed since 2016, Run's smaller

I just bought a new tropic comfort to replace "old reliable" my 5 year old burnt, stained, and worn tropic comfort hoody that had been everywhere (Africa, NZ, Grand Canyon, etc), and was surprized to discover both the material and the fit had changed. Material is thinner, and honestly feels similar to my NRS river hoody. More of a rash guard feel ( better when wet?). The seams on the new are more durable and heavily stitched. But sizing has very much changed. My old one is a medium and is very loose fitting and generally went over many layers (preferred). The new one is much more fitted in the medium and just didn't quite fit as comfortable over long underwear... however buying the Large fixed that prob. I would order a size up if you're replacing an old one or wanting to have a looser more flowing fit.

Great hiking/lake shirt

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Medium

As a fair skinned guy, I have to be careful about sun exposure, especially living in the South where the sun beats down pretty hard. I had heard a lot of good things about this hoodie, so picked one up during a sale, and so glad I did. It?s super silky and comfortable, and dries super quickly. And with UPF 50, it gives me peace of mind on hikes where I?m exposed to sun, and especially when I?m on the lake. At 5?8?, 165lbs, I?m a solid medium in most brands, including Patagonia. But the medium in this does fit a little baggie compared to other Patagonia medium shirts. I tried the small just out of curiosity, but it was too tight through the shoulders, so I stayed with the medium. And the slightly looser fit does help with airflow and drying. In fact, I picked up another one in a second color a few months after getting the first. Definitely recommend this to anyone considering a sun hoodie.

Light and Comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Medium

I?m 6ft, 175lbs and wear a medium 95% of the time. The sleeves are a tad short on this but it fits everywhere else. I fear the large would be super baggy so I?m keeping the medium. I?ve worn it outside in the mid 70s but nothing hotter yet. It performed great and it feels like you aren?t wearing anything at all. My one nitpick is that I don?t care much for the one button on the neck. I prefer other SPF hoodies I have that don?t have any buttons at all. I tried using the button and it feels uncomfortable, and looks silly. All in all a nice piece of summer gear.

Very comfortable, light shirt. I read many reviews saying it ran large so I bought down a size. Had to return it and go with what I normally wear. The 2xl is just right. Have worn it several times in 70-80° weather and never got hot. Spend alot of time lounging around the house in it.

I generally don't buy Patagonia for my own reasons, but this shirt is just downright amazing. SO much, that I want to get one for my father-in-law who is my #1 fishing buddy. He spends a lot of time outside in the sun, out in his boat fishing for walleyes as well as running. I got mine for just wearing outside this summer on hot days as an alternative to slathering up in sun screen on my backpacking trips- I don't like smelling like a coconut in bear country....just sayin, haha. I'm a husky guy and the 2XL is a good fit- very true to size like your favorite t-shirt, and not trim/athletic fit one bit!

Love this. Purchased before a trip to Florida. Wore it all week on the beach, and on a deep sea fishing adventure. Provided great SPF protection and kept me cool when the temps climbed. Fits perfectly for me.

A shirt of many uses!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

First bought it for fly fishing but have since started using it while paddleboarding after a bad burn. The UPF rating is great and really works! This shirt is not only soft but also durable. After a long day of fishing or paddling, it doesn't stink! I seriously love this thing and severely underestimated how amazing it was prior to purchasing. Fit is true to size and the colors/style are great!

Climbing, hiking, chilling at the beach- this is the perfect shirt for everything. Runs a bit baggy, recommend sizing down (I?m 6? 2? / 165lb and a medium fits well). More durable through a few bushwhacks than I expected, given how lightweight it is.

This product is EXCELLENT nothing beats it I'm a Baja Mexico fly fisherman and the hot in there is INSANE. I've tried LOTS of products of different brands, (SIMMS, Columbia, Loop, Under Armor, etc) The best fabric material of all is this Patagonia by far. Nothing out there beats it. Really true to size not as the sunshade technical that runs way too big.
