Great Jacket

I own a pair of Patagonia Goretex rain pants and bought this to match. Sadly the pants don't hold a candle to the H2NO Torrentshell jacket. The H2NO fabric is thicker, sturdier and waterproof.
I wore this during a snow/ice storm in DC over a warm layer and was very pleased with its ability to keep rain/ice and wind off of me. I usually wear xs/s t shirts but ordered a medium to wear over a base layer. No problem cinching up the cords to make windproof and water tight. If you are wearing with a short sleeve t shirt, the underside of the fabric can be a little cold.

A perfect light weight rain coat.

Gave it as a gift, and they really like it.
In their words, "This jacket is the perfect light weight rain coat. Very comfortable and keeps you very dry. Highly recommended. "

I gave this jacket to my sister, and she loves it. It fits great and is a great rain coat for those east coast rain/ thunder storms.

Doesn't seem to breathe well

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This jacket has kept me dry from the outside when its rained on me, but I was visibly wet on the inside from condensation. I was walking briskly for an hour and when I got home you could see the moisture on the inside.

My girlfriend bought this jacket and loves it. It is super light and keeps her completely dry in the rain.

Love it

I got this jacket in black and a size small, I am 5'6 and 112pds and it was still a little big on me which is perfect for layering! I love this jacket it is rain proof and a good wind breaker I love the draw strings in the hood and the zippers under the arm pits. Money well spent, I have gotten other raincoats in the past that just died on me. This is honestly the best I have had. I love the Patagonia brand, they replace your coat and treat their workers ethically! Cannot go wrong here !

Snug, but otherwise awesome!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Reviewer is 5'0", 115. Bought XS.

As many of the other reviews told, the torso of this jacket is a bit snug (but not tight, not great if you are trying to wear a lot of layers underneath) but otherwise fits the way you would want a rainjacket to fit: dips down in the back to cover your butt, sleeves just a little extra long with great velcro adjustable straps to keep rain and wind out, big hood. Pockets are positioned in a comfortable place, material is lightweight but wind and water resisitant. If you are looking to layer with this, I'd definitely recommend going a size up. Great every-day rain jacket! Looking forward to using it for a long time.

My Mom Loves It

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I got this jacket for my mom for her birthday. She goes on a 6 week road trip across the west every year. Through multiple stormy evenings in camp to afternoon showers in the mountains, this jacket kept her dry and happy.

nice rain/wind protection

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took the jacket with me to Alaska, kept me dry & kept the wind from biting through. It did not make a lot of noise when worn, plenty of pockets for storage, folds down easily for travel , stood up to the elements.
I purchased the light gry/silv so I could wear it with anything and anywhere.
As far as sizing, I am 5'3 140lbs and purchased the a Medium, even without layering it did not feel overly big on me, the jacket can be adjusted along the bottom, hood and cuffs. As one reviewer mentioned, the bottom is not fluted so take that into consideration.
I was able to get a long sleeve pull over, long sleeve button down shirt, a thin fleece jacket and a slightly puffy vest on, jacket was a bit snug all over but moved with me and It never felt restrictive.
As far as the hood, I have a rain proof BB cap to wear underneath just to give me extra protection from the BB caps bill. The hood can be adjusted from the back and with the draw cord along the front for a snug fit, with the collar zipped all the way up only my eyes were visible.

Basic but effective rain jacket

I got one of these for my daughter, and it works so well for her I have to get one myself! I just need to figure out which color ... I love them all!

Year-round Jacket

I never leave home without this jacket, with good reason. I love that it packs into a pocket so I can easily throw it into my bag. Its become my top layer in winter when I ski in the Midwest. It layers great with my nano puff or re-tool snap fleece or just a sweatshirt when I'm skiing and doesn't bog me down like other shells I've had in the past. It breathes great and protects me from the wind and the rain.
I will say that when it gets really wet it gets clingy and you think that you're getting wet but you never really do. I've had other rain jackets that gave me a similar sensation but when it felt clingy that meant you were getting wet. I've learned to trust my torrentshell because it hasn't let me down yet.

Perfect traveler

This jacket has enough pockets for anything and easily scrunched up small enough to latch on to my Patagonia traveler backpack. The sizing was appropriate, but I would warn that the bottom of the jacket is not fluted in the sizing, so if you've got hips or some junk in the trunk, don't plan on it being loose there. The fabric is exceptional, and I now feel like I have an adult raincoat! (traded in my old plastic cheerleading rain coat of 10 yrs)

I've browsed through the comments about sizing. I definitely want to be able to layer underneath and not feel tight. I am 5'2" approx 120 lb...was thinking of getting a small, but it seems I might perhaps need an XS?? My daughter has a North Face Resolve jacket XS and while I can wear it, if I got that jacket, I'd prefer a S. help?!

Responded on

Tough call for sure, seems like you're right in between sizes. If you're longer in the torso, or plan on layering quite a bit underneath the Torrentshell I would go for the small. XS would probably give you a nice fit if just worn over a t-shirt or long sleeved base layer. hope that helps!

Awesome

Love this Jacket. Never had a really rain jacket before and this one works phenomenally. Never got wet once. Although the hood could use to be a little deeper. Found that it tended to slide off the back of my head and expose my face and I'm pretty petite.

Got an XS Fennel, I am 5'4", 110lbs. Same exact color as shown in the backcountry picture when you scroll over the colors. Fit's perfectly, with a little extra length in the sleeves to keep your dry.

Great Jacket.

Perfect for Spring time showers!

I love everything about this jacket. The breath ability, the fit, and most importantly the color. I got the mango and was worried it was going to be too bright but it is perfect. My husband and I both bring this jacket on all trips, just in case!

Great Rain Protection at Great Price!

I ordered the ginko color in a small last year for my trip to Alaska and couldn't have gotten a better jacket. It's breathable and packs up really small, and, most importantly, it kept me dry! The fennel color looked exactly like Backcountry's photo. I'm 5'7" and weight 125.

Perfect Light Weight Rain Jacket

Just like pretty much everything else Patagonia makes, this jacket is amazing. I got a medium (I'm 5'9", 145 lbs, for reference), and I actually get excited when it rains (I'm a total sun bum) now because I get to wear it. I got it in Fennel, and I think the photo is pretty true to the color, though maybe a tad lighter. You'll definitely have to adjust the hood so it won't blow off, but Patagonia has designed it with plenty of a adjustment tabs. Hope to get many years of rainy day fun out of it!
