I've never gotten any patagonians yet, so I'm really confused about the sizes. I normally wear S or M. Regarding that this is kid's, what size should I get?

Jessica, the sizing chart above has the measurements for each size. I don't know if a large would be big enough for you if you normally wear a womens small or medium. Large is designed to fit a 12 year old, which would translate to a little smaller than a womens XS I believe.
