Love it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I wanted a high-quality shell for alpine hiking. This fits the bill. Lightweight and with pit zips for warm days at the base, but large enough to fit over layers at altitude. Light and packable - I find myself throwing it in my bag for use around town, too. And it looks good. In a perfect world I would prefer it to be a bit longer in length, though.

I am trying to find an outer shell to go over a down coat I bought on here earlier....the Patagonia Downtown Jacket. I was just wondering if this might work with it? I have an XL in the Downtown because I thought I needed to layer under but it turns out I also need to layer with this over it. I am also looking at the Marmot that is in the outlet sale but it appears to have a more slim cut and I'm thinking might be too tight.

Tough call here, but an XL would definitely be worth a try in the Super Cell, or possibly the Torrentshell from Patagonia that might offer a little more room. The Downtown Loft jacket is a little puffier that the typical down jacket that would be used as a mid layer, I'd be interested to hear if either jacket works for you when you get it. Hope that helps!

This is definitely a great shell for skiing, but is on the lighter weight end of the spectrum for hard shells. It utilizes Gore Pac Lite which is fully seam taped and waterproof. Personally I use this as more of a backcountry skiing shell and it works great, for resort skiing something like the Patagonia Piolet or Powder Bowl would be my preference.
