The Patagonia Men's Stretch Terre Planing 20in Walk Shorts wear several different hats, from casual chino short, to hardcore hiking trunk, to impromptu board short. This is all thanks to a two-way stretch fabric that moves with you during outdoor excursions and dries quickly after you take a dip or work up a sweat. It also sports a DWR finish to repel light rain and offers UPF 50+ sun protection for blazing summer days.

    Lightweight all-day shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34

I was a little surprised at how lightweight these shorts are. The fit and feel is amazing, and no reason they can't be used as swim trunks, or an average pair of shorts to kick it in all day. Not sure they'd hold up to well for rock-climbing, but they are great for hikes and water ways.

I wear them all the time

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34

These are great shorts - enough to have purchased three different colors. They are definitely light enough to use as a swimsuit, but (in certain coloroways/patterns) low-key enough to wear as regular shorts. I've taken them to Bali, Indonesia to avoid having to pack multiple types of shorts for different activities. These went from surf to rinse to lunch to the shops, etc. without looking out of place. They dry quickly and have held up well. Locally, I wear them to the climbing gym and the pool, and when I'm bumming around town.

I typically wear a 32, but I sized up a bit with these for a little more room in the legs.
