Stretch Element Jacket - Women's

What if you could combine the flexibility and breathability of your favorite softshell with the three-layer, waterproof breathable fabric in a hardshell? Welcome to the Patagonia Women’s Stretch Element Jacket. The nylon fabric in this jacket is stretchy, soft, and uses a waterproof barrier to repel the wet, while the stitch-free, flexible-tape construction reduces weight and helps keep seams dry. Underarm zips dump heat on your alpine climbs, ice climbs, and backcountry ski treks, the helmet-compatible hood adds a layer of protection when the storms roll in, and reinforced shoulders and sleeves adds durability. Patagonia topped this technical jacket off with DWR-coated zippers and a hem drawcord.

Bottom Line: Comfortable and dry in your Element.

i dont really understand this jacket. i bought it wanting to use it as a winter jacket / ski coat, and i didnt realize it wouldnt have a lining. do you all just buy a separate fleece to wear with this thing? what's the benefit to doing that vs just buying a 3 in 1?

This is an alpine climbing and ski touring jacket, it is thin and lightweight and designed for high-output activities. It is not a very good jacket for putting a fleece underneath - the sleeves are skinny, they are designed more for ice climbing so the sleeves don't bunch up. This is the best piece of technical clothing gear I've owned, but it is not a jacket for inbound skiing.

This is much more breathable and lightweight than any 3 in 1 jacket. More comfortable if you want to use it as a shell above 30 degrees fahrenheit. It is also more expensive :o) but well worth the money if you want a multi purpose/multi sport jacket!

Best jacket I have ever owned! runs big

I barley notice that I'm wearing it. So breathable, so light weight and so soft! (forget about stiff shells that restricts your moves) Stretchy - and stays in place no mater what I'm doing - even climbing i don't have to pull it down all the time (and I have a long torso).

When out longer than a day, I always bring it, rolled up and tugged in to the hood it doesn't fill up to much space in a pack, and you'll love it if the wind start to blow or the weather gets wet!

Normal sizing for Patagonia jackets. I'm normally an M (most brands), and bought so in this jacket - and there is plenty of room for warm layers under it. I would wish the fit a bit more slim, but don't want to loose an inch in lenght.
breast: 96cm, waist 80cm, hip 108cm, according to the size chart I'm a large but I like the fit of the small, and the lenght of the medium - but again, I have a long torso! (I'm 5'10)

Is the center-front zipper of the fog one different from the green one? The green has a RiRi center-front zipper in the details picture, but the fog has not.

Maggie,
The Fog is an older version of the Stretch Element(Fall 08), and you're correct it doesn't has a RiRi Aquazip, but the zip is still waterproof.

I love when it's cold enough to where this jacket!!

This is the best jacket I've ever purchased. It works flawlessly against rain/snow and wind. I live in Michigan and the winters are brutal, but I'm always nice and toasty. Sometimes when I walk to school or work I even work up a sweat. At night, or when it's below 25 degrees I usually throw a fleece on underneath for a little extra warmth (I suggest the Patagonia R3). There's plenty of room. (I'm 5'7" and 150 and I got a medium.) It also has a very nice feminine fit and it's unnecessarily baggy so I don't feel like I pulled on my boyfriend's ski jacket by accident. The hood is completely adjustable which is great. My only complaint in that the top of the zipper sticks up and rubs against my chin sometimes.

I know it's pricey, but if you're cold by nature or spend a lot of time out in the cold, it's worth every penny. TRUST ME!!

i'm looking for a jacket to get me from point A to B in rainy Vancouver weather AND keep me dry. I noticed this jacket does not provide a waterproof rating and is not goretex...is it really suited for what I need?

Hi Carla,
Absolutley, the Stretch Element is fully waterproof and will work as well or better than any goretex jacket. And it tests out to 30k or better for the waterproof rating.
