Patagonia built the Men’s Storm Light Jacket for you to use in moderate to warm temps and rainy weather. A lightweight version of the original Storm Jacket, this Patagonia rain shell breathes exceptionally well so you don’t stew in your own sweat while hiking in Washington’s Olympic Mountains or trekking southwest China’s Tiger Leaping Gorge. Open the underarm vents on the Storm Light to get air circulating after a tough uphill push, and roll the hood into the collar when the downpour subsides.
Bottom Line: A lightweight shell for comfort in warm, wet weather.
i have one of these bad boys and it hasn't ever let me down! I picked it up for half this price and is my go-to jacket when it's snowing. plus if you like recycling it's 100% recycled if that matters to you.. ALSO it looks great and doubles as a great everyday jacket that tells everyone you see that you're cool...haha
jealous is the first word that rolls out of my mouth when it comes to this jacket...my twin bought it and i didn't and i've been kicking myself ever since...looks SOOO good! can be worn anywhere! dates...work...outdoors...church whatevs! seriously, if i have one regret in life...it's watching my twin wear it every time i'm around him...
My husband wants a rain jacket to wear alone or over his Patagonia down sweater when its colder. So far I'm deciding between this Storm Light Jacket and the Rain Shadow. Keeping in mind that he might wear this alone OR over the down sweater, is the Storm Light a better choice? Or the Rain Shadow? Are there other options I should consider?
I think the Rain Shadow might be a better piece to layer over the Down Sweater. The Storm Jacket is designed to be a more complete jacket on it's own, while the Rain Shadow is slightly more technically oriented.
To a certain degree this is going to be a matter of opinion. In my opinion the Storm Light is a better way to go because of the lining and extra pockets. That is an especially important feature if he'll wear the jacket without a lot of layering. Just to keep your options open you might look at some of the shells made by backcountry.com like the Stoic eVent or the Stoic 2.0. Check out the outlet. I'm a huge fan of them. The performance is second to none! Hope that helps.

This is a great jacket. The fabric and details of the jacket is excellent. The material feels like a soft shell and all the details are very well made. It is longer than the torrentshell or rainbow jacket by patagonia. I am 6 ft and 180lbs. Large fits me well. It has a relaxed fit so it is great for any movement. Pretty comfortable and funtional jacket.
What is the fit like on this jacket? My chest measures 41-42 and based on the sizing chart I am in between sizes (M/L). Would the size L be too big for me?
David, the jacket has a Regular Fit, a chest 41/42" in a medium might be a little tight. Medium: 39-41" chest, sleeve length 34-35" Large : 42-45" chest, sleeve length 35-36" good choice,,,hope this helps
I adored my old Patagonia Torrentshell rain jacket, with H2NO and simple features and fit. Hiked in it, skied in it, gently washed, rinse, repeat, hardly showed its age ... until some hooligan ripped it from my Jeep one weekend. Damn I missed that jacket, even while wearing a full-featured Gore-tex Patagonia Fusion jacket (which takes an R3 jacket as a zip-in liner). This replacement -- slightly upscale from Patagonia's basic rain shells, on a diet from its heavier big brother -- has the same light weight, easy fit, well thought out features, with the addition of a hideaway hood (with multiple adjustments for fit), dual-zipper pit zips, internal net pocket for stashing things. Like their other shells, it has a waist adjustment that is self-tied out of the way ... versatile velcro cuffs ... storm flaps on all the zips ... easily grabbed zipper pulls. One of the significant features in hot, humid, rainy climes is the net fabric liner, which glides over your first layer, and wicks moisture away from your body (so they say). It makes it much easer to get on and off.So. Another faithful buddy for sudden drenchers ... until someone rips it off again. I'll be en garde this time.
Just a solid shell. I wear it in -5f weather with wind - blizzard conditions with just a heavy wool sweater and some mid weight base layer and it is warm. Dry in a thunderstorms and breathes. Nice soft neck that is not abbrassive. Great chest pocket. I use it to ride to work in the winter in Chicago as well. The hood rolls up neatly and allows good vision. Good value for the price.
I'm really happy with this jacket. Water just flys off of it. Really good for day hikes, camping and general around town rain jacket. Looks really nice too and I can get away with wearing it to the office. I really like the mesh lining on the inside which give it a bit more comfort than a general backpacking shell, though it might be a bit too heavy for a long backpacking trek.
This is a great coat. I have been a minimalist for some time and I usually prefer gore-tex, but I found this jacket at a great price so I thought I would give it a try. It holds it own in any Asian monsoon or in the Colorado backcountry. My only complaints are echos of other reviews. The side pockets do get in the way of a pack waist strap and they are too small if you have gloves on. It would also be nice if they were lined or something for the extra price. The coat is also a bit bulkier than I am used to due to the hanging mesh, but it still packs down pretty nice. The internal pocket is really nothing more than an extra bit of hanging mesh. It doesn't close or anything. The fit is a little on the big side as well but it works great on top of down on those nasty days. It is made in China and so far has taken everything that China has thrown at it!
This jacket is a good jump up from a basic mid-market rain jacket. If you are willing to pay a little more I think it is worth it. It will be warmer, dryer and more durable than a basic Precip or the Rain Shadow. Plus it looks pretty cool too. The fabric is very waterproof and kind of stretchy so it fits nicely. I use mine for alot for walking and bike commuting in Seattle and so far this winter it has passed the test of intense rain and cold. It is also a decent backcountry raincoat, it packs down pretty small and is lightweight. The hood is big enough to fit a helmet so if you are looking for an affordable multi-use jacket to use in wet snow or rain this is it. My only gripes are that the side pockets are a bit low. They are a bit bulky when wearing a backpack with hipstraps. Also I do not like that this jacket does not have an inside zipper pocket for valuables. I plan to use the jacket for travel also and it is very nice to have safe inner pockets in sketchy cities. Iam about 5'11" and 170lbs and a large was too big for me, so I went with a medium. I can still fit a puffy underneath on really cold days.
My more full-featured jackets have inside zip pockets, but I think this jacket is meant to be a very simple lightweight waterproof shell. I agree about the side pockets, I find the zippers are bit too short to bit in my large, square wallet. But this isn't a safari jacket with umpteen pockets -- it's a simple shell that packs light and keeps you dry in the rain. Sometimes less is more.
