Multi-day touring missions in the backcountry call for the spacious and efficient Patagonia Snow Drifter 40L Backpack. Whether you're moving through a hut system or heading to a remote yurt, this roomy top-loading pack hauls everything you need to move efficiently deep in the backcountry.
Multiple carry options accommodate both skis and snowboards, and locking cam buckles ensure that your chosen piece of gear is safely secured. Burly Cordura fabric ensures long-lasting durability, and the PU coating and DWR finish keep your gear dry when you get bogged down in a snowstorm. The top-loading design features a removable lid and an adjustable drawcord system that allows you to overstuff the pack, and a side access zipper allows you to reach items at the bottom without completely unpacking. Internal snow safety tool organization keeps avalanche rescue tools organized so you don't waste a second searching for what you need in case of an emergency.
Air Flow mesh on the shoulder straps and back panel promotes breathability to keep you from getting drenched with sweat when you're huffing it under the intense alpine sun. The microfleece-lined pocket protects your goggles from sharp edges when you're not wearing them, and a stash pocket in the lid secures small items that might otherwise be easily swallowed up by the pack. It also has a stealthy internal thermos pocket that keeps your hot coffee within reach. Whether this is your first multi-day tour or you practically live in the snowy wilderness, the Snow Drifter 40L is here to help you get through your big backcountry missions.

- Q & A
Have used this pack multiple times now and am amazed at how versatile it is. Has load carry/adjustment straps. Expands contracts easily with long zip to access lower pack items. Haven't carried skis but I expect will do this well also. Really good little big pack. Only thing missing might be a rain cover, but I can live without it.
Best ski touring pack ever made.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Seriously - it's got everything you need out of a ski pack - check the specs!
Its super comfortable and sits really well on your back while skiing.
Not the best option for snowboarding
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Received this item as a gift. It has great storage options and the side entry zip is great for accessing items in the middle or bottom of your pack. However, the vertical snowboard carrying system isn't wide enough. My board barely fit through the straps while it was empty and wouldn't fit when the pack was full. I don't know why Patagonia simply didn't make those straps 2 - 3 inches longer. I would recommend this pack for ski touring and long trips, but for snowboard carrying, there are better options.
high quality - but is a tight 40l
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
The snowdrifter is very well designed, but i felt the pack was a "small" 40 liters. The front pocket is very flat, and difficult to see into and find things when the main compartment is loaded. Wouldn't be that bad if you weren't fully loaded, or if you had tall items like a shovel packed. The pack compressed very nicely, wore comforable, and had excellent usability out of the compression straps and gear loops.Removable top was cool, especially with the extended rain flap to overpack. A good pack, but overall was a little smaller than what I was looking for.
I see this carrys skis... does it have a place to strap boots onto as well for those of us snowshoeing in?
is this durable enough for day hike/overnight pack as well?
Definitely, this fabrics used in this pack are pretty bomber.
