Sleeves are overrated.

The Patagonia Men’s Slingshot Down Vest recognizes that while you enjoy the freedom of going sleeveless, you still need to stay warm. That’s where the 600-fill goose down comes into play. This easy-on, easy-off puffy features full snaps down the front and boasts a drop-tail hem and DWR finish to shed precip. Patagonia rounded out the Slingshot vest with extra-soft brushed polyester at the collar, ensuring added comfort whether you’re grabbing food downtown or just stuck out in the cold.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This vest could be great, but the sizing is so odd... I'm 6'1", about 190, and the large has way too much room. The lack of a hem cinch is a deal killer here, as wind can easily get in if you don't really fill it out. I ordered the medium as well, and it fit me great through the body, but was a little short and the armholes cut into my pits if I tried to move my arms in any direction. Hopefully they will fix the sizing in the future, it seems to be a common complaint. Too bad, it's so close to being a great piece of gear

Would Like To Love It, But CRAZY Sizing!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Ordered both a Large and Medium to see which one would fit me - neither came close. I'm somewhat thin (but not overly so) at 6'3" and 185 lbs.

First tried the Large - I could seriously gain 40 pounds and still have plenty of room to fit in it. Next tried the Medium - really tight on me, not to mention short as well. Also did not care for way the neck looked when zipped up.

My other Patagonia clothes (R1 Hoody for example) I've always ordered in a Large and it fits me perfect. The Patagonia Down Sweater Vest also fits me fairly well in Large.

Other than that, I think this vest has a great style, was very lightweight and packable, and I loved both the front pockets and side hand pockets. If you're able to try one on first, it may be great for you.

Ready for Fall

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I finally got my Slingshot Vest in and love the quality and warmth that it has provided. It fits well and is comfortable. I also discovered, after buying it, that it comes with a pack sac for the vest. Very handy.
I am now ready for fall!

Baggy or do you think the small would be too tight?

Responded on

I am a smaller build guy and the size fit true to me if not even snug, but I am happy with the fit!

Very Nice

The vest is great and has just enough pockets to carry the essentials. The only problem is the fit. They need to increase the sizes by a few inches on each size. I am 6'1" and I bought an XL and found it to be much more snug than I would have liked. Overall a great article of clothing.

I just ordered the medium. I am 140 LBS. and about 5'8". I hope mine fits me right. I have always liked the Patagonia clothing.

I am looking for a down vest for my boyfriend, I am loving the look of this vest. However he is 6'2" and is thinner athletic build. He likes longer styles that go past the waist area. Would this vest be long enough in an "XL" ??

Responded on

L or XL, depending on his size. I would guess L, but if you know his shoulder size of suit size you would be able to make a better guess. I am 6'1" 180, and would get a large.

Great vest

Bought the Slingshot vest about a month.5 ago and love it. I wanted the vest to be worn over layering items, so I bought a bigger fit (XL), and it fits well. I am 6'11", 180, slim to athletic build, and wear it over a number of items including the Patagonia Synchilla fleece. Warmth is ample, plenty of pocket space as it has both hand warming pockets that you can access from the side of the vest, but also pockets for stashing your goods in the two top access front pockets. Also has a stash pocket on the inside left. Very stowable, as it folds down into a small sac. Very light, I bring it canoeing with me in a dry sack for core temp. in case of the worst. The material seems to be solid, and can take just about anything. The vintage design is very cool. Great buy if you are looking for a warm vest, as the 650 fill down does the job.
