Great pants. Good fit.

Love them for alpine climbing or rock climbing in cool weather. Will even wear them for ice/mixed climbing in dry conditions.
I use a medium size for most everything and these pants fit perfectly, not too snug not too loose, right length.
Pockets will accept small/flat objects only.

I have a size 30 waist and a 33-34 inch inseam, what size would work for me?

I'd give a medium a shot - you might need a belt, but I think the length will be ok.

You would need a pant with a long inseam for a 30/34 but these do not come in that size. A 30/34 will be a tough pant to find.

Nice soft shell

Really like these pants. Nice close cut, but not too tight on me. These are close to the marmot scree pants, maybe a little bit lighter, and slightly more loose, but the waist feels better (I had trouble with the size small scree being too small and the medium being too big). Has belt loops. Does not have the zip bottom like the scree pants, but no biggie for me. I dont think I would wear them for rock climbing, they are a bit too binding for really high leg move. Definitely for hiking, and alpine climbing, spring skiing, stuff like that. Good comparison to the MH talus and Chockstone pants, but more slim cut.

seam taping is typically present on fully waterproof garments. The Simple Guide's here are water resistant, but not fully waterproof, so there's no need for the seams to be reinforced. The pant leg could definitely be hemmed if you wanted to shorten the length.

Taping basically means that the seams have added protection against moisture. Or, in other words, more water resistant/proof.

Love them, true to size

I wear 32X32 jeans and I find the Mediums fit perfect, like a 33 or 34in waist jean and are cut exactly like a nice pair of jeans. I can fit a baselayer under if cold. They are a thin fabric so cold winter activities I'd wear the base, but for high activity and mild temps (25 F ish) I'd go sans baselayer with these.

They are a slender cut though. I use these for backcountry skiing and they barely stretch over my boots. At first I found this a pain, but now I like it since there are no drafts and they seemed to have stretched a tiny amount and go over more easily. The attached photo shows how they go over boots. And with the thin cut they don't feel too floppy and baggy for going out on nordic gear, so now I use this pant for all types of human-powered skiing where i generate the heat and I need something light but snug.

Nice pants

By:

I use these pants in all winter skiing conditions (I live in CO so it is dry than say the PNW) and alpine climbing. It is pretty amazing how breathable and comfortable these pants are. I would have liked the pockets to be larger to accomodate a notebook (since these are "guide pants") but this was not distracting. These pants don't fit quite as slim as some other patagonia stuff, but it sure ain't baggy. If you plan to use these for skiing, I would recommend buying the patagonia version of these that have reinforcements around the ankle. My skis are starting to cut my pants, but in light of these pants other amazing qualities, it is not distracting. This is an incredible pant for the price.

Nice Pant but Bean Polls Read This

Wonderful pant, well made, good material. Im 6"5 and 180 lbs (aka tall n' skinny, normal jeans ~32W/34L) and ordered a Large on account of the size chart. A bit big on the waist(would need a belt for sure), but length was great, maybe even a tad long. Going to get a Medium to see if I can get the best of both worlds, update then!
