Simple Guide Pant - Men's

Patagonia used three-layer H2No nylon material and stitchless construction to give the Men's Simple Guide Pants bomber weather protection at a low 11-ounce weight. A single hip pocket gives you a place to stash your micro headlamp and doubles as a stuff sack to store the Simple Guide Pants on the approach. These simplistic Patagonia alpine pants have elastic cuffs to keep the snow out of your boots and let you save weight by leaving your gaiters at home.

Bottom Line: You don't need to sacrifice weather protection to use lightweight gear. Just wear the Patagonia Simple Guide Pants.

Nice n' Tough

By:

Just wanted to second what Jason Vermillion ranked this pant. Lightweight and very durable. Nice stretch for taking long strides. Slim fitting pant doesn't get in the way of moving fast and this soft shell material is nice and very weather resistant. Great product, but as expected from Patagonia, quite expensive. Hiking boots will fit, but if you can avoid scree filled areas, stick with trail runners.

Simple Guide Pants

By:

Normally I'm a fan of Patagonia's products but this one has left me dissapointed. The fabric does not breath well, has a small window of temperatures where it's comfortable, and the drawstring has an inadequate fastener and the pants keep slipping down - especially with a harness on!

Scope out the Patagonia website - if they don't have them there, then they don't exist.

Patagonia Simple Guide Pants

By:
March 21, 2007

I find the pants to be very breathable for me and a good fit, however there are a number of improvements that Patagonia should make: (1) Get rid of the drawstring with the cord lock. The pants do not stay up on me when I am wearing a pack, and the cord lock slips. (2) Put deeper pockets in the thighs so that you can get your hands in them and things don't fall out when unzipped. Both of these features are found in the Guide Pants which I rate much superior and of heavier material making them better for cooler weather use.

Not waterproof, not a wide enough bottom cuff

By:

I thought they'd be a bit more water resistant. Also, the bottom isn't really wide enough to fit over my ski boots. But great for hiking boots. They are extremely comfortable however and get the job done.

great pants

By:
September 22, 2008

wore them on a trip to whitney. Started at 11000 feet at 4am with temp at 25 degrees. Going at a strong pace. These pants were perfect. Breathed very well. Had them on until the middle of the switchbacks on the sunny side with temps in 70s at which time I took them off and wore shorts. These fit slim people (I wish people would stop rating clothing and shoes for the fit. They can't make clothes that fit all the different types of American bodies for crying out loud.). Had them on at Forrester pass at 13,200 ft. with snow flurries and they were again perfect-didn't get wet at all. The drawstring was a little weird. They don't have a fastener in front, only a zip fly. The drawstring was superfluous as the pants stayed on well without them being tightened, but the plastic cincher did get under the belt of my pack a couple of times and wasn't comfortable. Small gripe. Great pants for hiking in the high country.

Durable and comfortable

By:
November 26, 2008

I lived in these for three weeks of mountaineering in the Cascades in late summer, and I couldn't ask for more. The fit is slim, but with some nice stretch for climbing... The soft shell material sheds all but the most drenching downpour, and the fleece lining is plenty comfortable with or without a base layer. I got a tiny rip in the material (sustained during a fall on some talus that should have done a lot more damage than it did), and the rip never expanded -- no field repairs necessary. You can't go wrong with these pants!

Easy Wear with Purpose

By:

Pants run on the smaller size and leg length is also a little short. Drawstring design was inconvenient and did not allow for pants to feel secure on waist. Other than that, pants were light weight and served the purpose for hiking and holding some warmth.

best backcountry pant !

By:
August 4, 2008

This is my 2nd pair. I was very impressed with my 1st pair 5 days in the Denali backcountry. No trails in Denali its all bushwacking. Fast drying after river crossings and not to hot or heavy on the climbs over the ridgelines.

Stretchable yet durable

By:
March 31, 2008

I found the fabric breathable for 80 degree temps in Joshua Tree. Stretchable yet durable. They're definitely very technical climbing pants. Didn't have any problem keeping the pants on. My girlfriend said my butt looked cute in them.
