You’re not stoked when wetness seeps through the particularly exposed areas on your ski jacket (shoulders, elbows, bottom hem). Patagonia added 2-layer waterproof breathable panels over those exact areas on the Women’s Rubicon Rider Jacket, so you get a bit more protection when it starts to flurry (or when you accidentally navigate down the hill face-first.

Can anyone tell me how far down this jackets falls, whether it stops at your waist or farther down on the hips? I'm looking for a super warm jacket that will at least partially cover my butt, without the knee length of a parka. A lot of the shorter sweater versions want to ride up on me. I admit even though athletic, I have a difficult time keeping the emergency fat storage around my mid section to a minimal. Any Jacket recommendations, I do like down?
I wear this jacket all day, everyday and sometimes through the night too. It's got decently long sleeves (I'm 5'11'') and torso coverage in the Medium. It's adjustable in all the right places (bottom, powder skirt, sleeves, hood and neck) and stays pretty warm even in cool temps (I wear it down to 0 F and with one or two layers it's fine) but it starts to feel less wind proof around that temp.
It's super comfortable, has a great look (I get compliments on my red one all the time) and holds up pretty well to skiing, hiking, sledding walking around town, chopping wood, you name it.
Anyone know how this runs? -->I've had a tough time with Patagonia's sizing over the last couple of years. All of a sudden some large's are huge & some mediums are too snug. (I always used to just be a large in everything... & I'm still physically the same size.) Any thoughts?
I tried this jacket on in a store and actually found it to have a more slim fit than I was expecting for a ski jacket. Though Backcountry says that the women's fit is "relaxed," the Patagonia website says that it has a "regular" fit which I think more accurately describes its fit. The men's jacket, which I just bought for my boyfriend, does indeed have a more relaxed fit. I like this jacket so much that I am planning on ordering it for myself, however I will stay with my standard medium, which I always go with in Patagonia tops. I would not recommend to size down in this jacket if you are usually a large.
The Rubicon Rider is designed to be a slightly looser fitting ski piece, but not quite a relaxed fit. It's going to be a bit longer and a bit looser in the body. Might be a spot where you'd be fine w/ the medium

Originally I purchased to Patagonia Micro puff. I didn't like it, the shape was bad and the pockets didn't liners so they were always COLD and the sleeves had elastic which I HATED. So I returned it and got the Rubicon. I love it. The pockets have a soft fleece lining and are super warm. Not to mention the jacket itself is super warm. Today it was 15 degrees and it didn't even bother me at all. The fits is ok, its not form fitted nor is it baggy right in the middle. Perfect for layering under, if need be. Its pretty warm so I don't know how many layers you'll need. Anyway if you thinking about buying this jacket, do it. You wont regret it.
I am debating between this jacket and the Patagonia powder bowl. I already have the primo down and it just isn't cutting it for me. I can't seem to find a jacket that keeps me warm. Any suggestions?
