Description

You don't win by coming in second place.

There is a good reason that The European Fishing Tackle Trade Association gave the Patagonia Rio Gallegos Waders their 'Best New Clothing' award: these waders are loaded with high-tech features that perform in the field.
  • Breathable H2No Hydrostorm barrier keeps water out without giving you a wrapped-in-plastic, sweaty feeling
  • Construction features puncture-resistant materials, strategically placing the lightest material in the chest and the thickest below the legs
  • Waist-mounted suspender allows you to easily change waders from chest- to waist-height and eases removal when nature calls
  • Gripper elastic gravel-guard cuffs resist abrasion
  • Stainless steel locking boot hooks secure your waders to your boots to avoid line catch
  • Anatomically shaped, merino-lined neoprene booties help your feet stay warm when it's cold, without making them overheat
  • Mesh drainage strip lets water escape your gravel guards, so you won't have to carry half of the river around with you
  • Included repair kit lets you make emergency fixes on the road

No Surprises

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm just sorry that I took so long in purchasing my first pair of Patagonia waders. I like the fit best of all. They are not as tight fitting as Simms waders, which I have owned most of my life. Nothing at all wrong with the quality of the Simms, but the fit and quality of the Patagonia Rio Gallegos is better, in my opinion. Very pleased with the purchase, and the delivery time was right on. Thank you for your great service.

Great for warm weather

I didn't realize how much I would like the convertible feature, but I wear these rolled down all the time with the warm weather. They fit great still and are super light.

Great waders, hard to size

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm 6'1" and 178lbs with a size 11 foot. Based on the sizing chart, I ordered a size L/Reg at first only to find them too long in the inseam and riding uncomfortably high in the crotch (even with the shoulder straps lengthened as much as possible). They were extremely large in the chest as well, but that was someone expected based on my chest size (40.5"). I then tried the M/Long and M/Reg and the M/Reg fit just right. I'm hoping the booties don't wear prematurely from sticking my big feet in them, but all-around, I'm very happy with these waders.

Great all around waders

I trust anything from patagonia, all their products are well built. Ifyour using these in fridgid water make sure you layer up. They are fine with long jons and jeans under them. Check the size when ordering im usually a large but medium worked better for me im 5'10 170ibs and thre mt fits great/\

Really comforable

These are by far my favorite waders, after years with the "other" wader brand. They fit great- I was between a M and L and went M and it works great. Love the padded knees, pockets and suspender system. The booties are really warm and a 1000x more comfortable than your standard neoprene.

Patagonia Rio Gallegos Waders

I like these Patagonia Rio Gallegos Waders quite a bit. I've been out in them several times and they feel pretty durable. My only complaint is that the suspenders don't have clips, so you have to pull the straps aside to get in and out of the waders.

Responded on

which size did you buy? Im normally M reg (31 inseam), but some friends told me to choose M long.. better for walking and wading

Responded on

I got a medium Short. I also have a 31 inseam. While I like not having baggy waders while I'm standing in the river, I do often wish I had purchased the Medium regular when I'm hiking in.

Responded on

probably should have gone medium regular. I have a 29-30 inseam and they fit me great all around hiking/getting in and out of the drift boat.

Nice Waders

These waders are definitely a bit of an investment but they are worth it. I've had a great experience with Patagonia's warranty policy. Waders take their share of abuse and so the lifetime warranty offsets the price some in my opinion. The waders are very comfortable and I am able to fish all day in cold winter waters with just a little layering underneath. One thing that I would like to mention in regard to sizing is that they have the ability to adjust quite a bit to different body shapes/sizes. I am 5'8'' , 160 lbs and normally M or S equipment fits well. These waders seem to be designed for thicker body types than mine (following the trend in size inflation?) as the XS Reg fit perfectly.

Responded on

I'd agree with your assessment that they are made for thicker people. I am 6'1" 185#, 43" chest and I had to exchange my Large Regular for a Medium Long.

Responded on

Could you elaborate on your experience with the Patagonia warranty? Thanks.

MattB - I am roughly the same build as you (6'2" and 42" chest but same weight). What size shoes do you wear and what is your inseam? Trying to determine if the Medium Long would be the right fit. Also, are you wearing these year-round (e.g. is there enough room to layer under them in the colder months)?
