Puts the fun in functional.
Watch her make memories as she runs around the campground in the Patagonia Girls' Retro-X Fleece Jacket. The quarter-inch high fleece exterior is made primarily from recycled polyester for a soft feel that keeps her warm as she throws rocks into the lake and roasts marshmallows around the fire. The windproof nylon lining ensures smooth layering and protects your girl from chilly mountain breezes during afternoon hikes. Zippered pockets help her keep mementos secure, and a hand-me-down ID label encourages continued use over the life of the jacket. - Q & A
Not what it used to be
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
I have owned a retro-x jacket in the past, and decided to purchase one for my daughter. We received the jacket in a timely manner, the color was just as displayed, and the sizing was somewhat accurate but a little on the small end. The cut is even boxier than I remember Patagonia being in the past, and too short in the torso compared to arm length and shoulder width. What was really disappointing was the material. We order the lovely green-blue color, and the pile was looped into a WHITE backing/membrane. Any time the pile parted or was creased to the side (which happened easily just in handling it, and came with a huge crease from being folded) you could see white lines on the jacket. Not only was this ugly and gave the jacket a very used and worn out look, but the pile parted so easily right down to the membrane/backing that really what was the point of the pile being on there in the first place? Looks? It certainly wouldn't have been for the loft. If for looks they failed in that as well because of the parting/cracking/line-ridden look. The retro piles from Patagonia that I, my husband, and my family members have owned did not have this same issue. Add to this that the recycled pile felt like styrofoam - exceptionally dry, unsubstantial, not soft in the hand, and it even squeaked between my fingers like styrofoam. Too bad, because I loved my old retro fleece and it lasted me many, many years. We returned this without using it, so I cannot comment on function, hence 3 stars. For material/cut/appearance alone I would have given it 1.5 stars.
