Wear the Patagonia Women's R3 Jacket on fall hikes, and layer it under a ski shell on the slopes. The wicking and wind-resistant Polartec Wind Pro fabric keeps you dry and blocks cold air from blasting through to your skin. If plush, velour material sounds deliciously comfy to you, you'll love the inside of the R3 Jacket—the velour grid feels soft when you're wearing a short-sleeve tee under this Patagonia fleece. Bending over on a sunny, winter snowshoe adventure can be dangerous when your buddies are behind you. Luckily, the R3's slight drop-tail back helps block snowballs.
Bottom Line: Revitalize your outdoor spirit with the R3's ridiculously soft interior and wind-resistant exterior.
I bought this jacket for the first time 2 years ago. It quickly became my little fleece buddy. I wore it almost everywhere from the start of fall through winter and even the chilly parts of spring. It's easily packable, very warm, and extremely well constructed. It's shape and hardwear held up well through all of the many washings. Overall I'd say the fit is pretty true to size although the sleeves are on the long side. Sadly I lost my little buddy and decided to try a different Patagonia model. Big mistake. I returned it and got this jacket for the second time. This fleece is easily my favorite piece of clothing.
I was so excited about this fleece, but I had to return it after I tried it on. I am a size 0 and ordered the XS and it fit right in the body length but the arms, shoulders and underarms are ridiculous. The arms are much too long and there seems to be an odd amount of materials in the underams making the fell very baggy and bunched up. Awkward fit all around. I returned and got the Marmot Flair which I am very satisfied with.
what is the collar like? i am looking to replace my current fleece because the collar has become very floppy, won't stand up anymore, and the zipper is curling into my face if it's not zipped all the way up. is the collar stiff enough to stand up on it's own and continue doing that even after washing?

Kept me warm while snowboarding in VT (30 deg at the base, 22 at the summit) with just a thin baselayer & unlined shell. I'm 5'9", 140lb, size M Patagonia tops fit consistently well. Well made, soft on the outside AND inside, dark brown color is really nice. A little pricey, but definitely worthwhile if you can find it on sale.
R stands for Regulator which is Patagonia's technical fleece offering. The lower the R # the lighter weight and more breathable the piece. R1 is a lightweight fleece with a grid interior, R2 is a high loft medium weight fleece, R3 has a high loft interior which is very warm and a very wind resistant face, and R4 is full wind resistant and the warmest fleece jacket on the market. hope that helps?
This jacket is a winner on the slopes. The fit is great, fitting a bit slimmer than the R2 jacket...I bought a small with my layers and the xsmall for over a regular top (street wear).
The jacket is warm, comfortable and attractive with pockets for easy access.
I received the NorthFace Denali jacket in Medium as a gift, but sadly returned it because the sleeves were too short. I exchanged it for a Large, only to find out that it was really LARGE! I moved onto the Patagonia R3 and absolutely love it. The arms are longer than the Denali, but it's still fitted and looks great with everything. I wear it everyday!
This is my favorite article of clothing. I wear this over a thermal while snowboarding or just hanging out walking outside on even 20-degree days - dry mountain air though. This is a warm jacket, but without being too warm. I LOVE THIS. Great fit, really regulates body temp. Really pricey though.
The jacket was really nice, I just didn't like the color (bitter chocolate) and the fit was a little too bulky. It felt so even with a bulky layer underneath. I will probably exchange the current item for a different color and smaller size.
I recently bought this fleece to replace my Patagonia retro x jacket that I misplaced at a restaurant a while back. I liked the thicker fleece of the Retro, but after wearing this for 3 days straight, I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. I wore it around town, snowboarding and to work. It has a fitted silhouette which makes it an ideal layering piece (wore it under a shell snowboarding). It is also much warmer than I anticipated (I ended up ditching the shell after a couple runs and was fine with just the jacket and an Icebreaker baselayer). It is very breathable and kept me warm and dry even though I was hiking back up the sledding hill after every run. It definitely earned it's stars for fit/looks, soft feel, and performance.
I love love LOVE this jacket. I go to school in Ann Arbor and the winters are brutal, particularly the wind, but this jacket had a history of actually making me sweat on the way to class it's so warm. I also love that it's cut to fit my womanly frame so I know I look good!!
