What wicks moisture, is extremely breathable, and keeps you warm when you summit the peak or wrestle in the snow with your gal? The Patagonia Mens R1 Fleece Pullover. This quick-drying pullover is exactly what you need for additional warmth underneath your shell. Its jersey microfiber face allows for smooth layering, and you can store your cash and ID in the chest pocket when you want to hit up the aprs-bar scene after a full day of charging hard on the slopes.
Bottom Line: The R1 Fleece Pullover makes dealing with the cold a cinch.
Bought this at the Patagonia outlet in SLC for the sale price of $50 (sorry backcountry) Chose the green color... And so far everytime I have gone into the Mountains or down south..I have had this piece in my duffel / pack or on my body...Keeps me warm yet not to warm. Fits over/under anything. I use it for Splitboarding, climbing, mountaineering, hiking, camping, and countless other things.
The R1 material from Patagucci is really somethin great. They use old soda bottles and other peoples worn out fleece to make a phenomenally warm pullover, which is pretty sweet! Super soft & comfy for loungin around the house, but loaded with technical features like the interior grid structure (best wicking/breathing I've seen from synthetic in a LONG time) & offset shoulder seams (awesome if your carrying a pack) make the R1 my go-to midlayer or baselayer for playin outside in the wonderful woods of Wisco. Definitely getting more colors. Also, I wear a medium in baselayers from Smartwool, Ibex, Craft & Icebreaker, and now also in 'gonia. I don't agree with people saying order larger..

I picked this fleece up in Mango and it's perfect for layering! It fits nice and snug without being skin tight. You can wear it under a jacket for some great warmth or even sport it around on a cool fall day. Definitely happy with my purchase.
R1 vs Arcteryx Rho AR I do own Rho AR ,waiting for R1 to arrive and was wondering if R1 will be warmer and slightly more wind proof. Which one is more breathable?
The R1 here is going to be more breathable, as well as more packable for you. The rho ar will take the nod in warmth on it's own, but the R1 packs a mean punch when it's layering with a jacket over the top.
I own two patagonia fleeces, a few northface ones, a couple columbia fleeces and several others (Yes I have more fleeces than I know what to do with) This one takes the cake though.
Not the fanciest sweater, if you're going out to dinner or what not, but nice enough that you could probably get away with wearing it to work.
The waffeling pattern of thwe fleece, really holds in the heat, but is pretty good in the wind too. It's light weight like 100 wt fleece, but holds in warmth closer to 200 or 300 wt. I'm 5'10" 175 lbs, and the M fits me well, maybe a little on the tighter side (or athletic fit) but I like that for layering and it looks better ;)
This is worth the money, although at MSRP it's pretty pricey.
I own 4 of these. The variety of temperatures and situations this jacket works in is simply amazing. It's great on its own, or when it gets colder it works awesome with a merino base layer and a softshell. I find myself wearing these all the time, even if I'm just lounging around the house.
I am 5'11 150lbs and a medium fits me nicely. Unlike a lot of cheaper fleeces, I don't have to get the large just so the arms are the right length. I feel like Patagonia custom made this piece just for me. Buy several, you won't regret it.
It's a more fitted, athletic fit. They also look great I might add; I was eying them for a while until I decided on the Montane Oryx fleece jacket. Both are light, comfortable fleeces that are great for layering or stand-alone use in mild weather. The only reason I didn't chose this one in the end was that I was able to get the Oryx for cheaper.
I have just recently got to test this fleece in the harsh winter of Germany and can say it is the best I have worn. Even with about 30degrees it is ok to wear with an undershirt and not freeze. With a jacket over the warmth is great! Quit looking between this and another brand and buy it today.
This fleece is warm and fairly easy to stuff down in your pack. It's great for a second layer, above a base-layer and below a jacket. There's no reason not to buy it. Be warned, Patagonia runs small and specifically this fleece does, order a size larger than you usually would.
I love this lightweight fleece. Performs great in the winter with a base layer underneath, looks great around town (in casual settings, of course), and has held up remarkably well. No pilling under my pack straps, for example.
From reading other reviews it seemed that the fit on this was snug, so I purchased a large. Perfect fit for me: not too bulky with room for a base layer and perfect sleeve length. I'm 6'1", 170lbs, ape factor of +2".
The biggest con is the price. I picked mine up on SAC, and even given how much I love this fleece it's pretty hard to imagine paying full retail for it.
I, too, enjoy the simplicity of this layer and little branding. The functionality is great: casual, "dressy", or backcountry warmth these pullovers are an excellent piece to have in your drawer or pack at all times.
This was the first thing from Patagonia that didnt fit me. Was way short on the torso and alittle loose around the waist. Everything else was perfect. Im returning but im still gonna give this a 4 star. The quality was still second to none and never judge a brand off one bad experience. Im 6'2 150 and slim so if you want something tighter fitting id size down
Picked one up on SAC for around $70. Patagonia tends to have a relaxed fit, but this fleece is "slim fit" per patagonia's description. It is definitely more slim fitting than the nano puff for example. The fleece is super warm and a great layer for skiing, hiking etc. It also packs down surprisingly small for a fleece. The grid pattern is also very smooth feeling. I got the lime green one and the picture is pretty accurate...it's a cool looking green. 4 stars cause it is expensive at full price.
Bomber Fleece. Patagonia Quality. While the fit is best tight, the torso is strangely short in comparison to the way Patagonia usually fits.... I wear a M in patagonia and this felt like the length of a S. I was bummed I had to return this one!
I use this as a baselayer. As many have said, this is a "tighter" fitting fleece thats snug but not too tight. I'm 6'5" 230 and ordered an XL. It fits snug to the body and works great as a base layer under a jacket/coat. It breathes well and keeps you warm. Don't expect a loose fitting outerwear type fleece. Great buy!
I have two and use both a lot because they are GREAT pieces that can be used for anything
I'm 5'8 150 and own one Small and one Medium and both fit well: -the small is more form-fitting and I layer on top of it when it's real chilly out -the medium fits more casually but definitely still has a 'Slim' feel to it; I wear this one out on the town, around the house and with as a midlayer when running or something like that
I love both and am glad I have each. I use them for layering and running and they excel at both
They breathe really well and the long zip allows you to really control how much heat you want to keep or dump at any given point in your endeavor
Awesome piece and I would absolutely recommend to a friend
The first technical fleece I've owned, and if they're all as good as this I have really been missing out. Have only had it for a few weeks, but it performed flawlessly skiing in the Dolomites - warm + breathable + free movement + great feel. Then used it as an outer layer on a hike in the hills closer to home and it was ideal. Highly recommend it.
This is hands down my favorite shirt. Super functional, comfortable & looks great. Has a simply stated style with little branding. I have several & have given several as gifts. Everyone who wears one loves it. (Guys & Girls)
The weight of the fleece and the fit of the garment make this a really versatile piece for everything from mid-layer warmth to hanging around casual. It's a great weight between a baselayer and a shell for high aerobic activities like snowshoeing or XC-Skiing down to pretty cold temperatures. The grid fleece interior is really warm but doesn't overheat, wicks well too. Fits true to size
So far, I can say that it's super warm and comfy - but I would beg to differ about the statement that it is "slim fit". I found it very loose in both the arms and torso, and I got a size small. I'm nearly 5'10 and probably 145 lbs., athletic build. Otherwise, no complaints.
