The Patagonia R1 Flash Pullover can serve as either a base layer or outer top, and is great when exerting yourself in cold temps—skiing, riding, mountain biking, rafting, you name it. You'll love the slightly stretchy R1 Flash for its superior moisture control as it pushes sweat away from your body to the fabric surface where it evaporates. Its natural water-resistance also protects on the outside. It insulates just as well as it wicks sweat, and is breathable so you don't overheat. Besides, you can always unzip the collar zip, offset to prevent chafing your chin, for maximum ventilation. Lightweight stretch panels strategically placed at the wrist and hem provide freedom of movement while reducing overall bulk. Though it's sized for next-to-skin use, it's roomy enough to fit over a light base layer.

Bottom Line: Many wear it as a base layer. Some wear it as a mid-layer. While some just drink beer in it après ski. Decisions, decisions.

patagonia's most versatile layer.

For most 3 season backpacking I dont even bring a jacket anymore since I bought this. I've used it with just a base layer and a rain shell over it for wind protection in sub 30 degree temps.Breathes just about as well as anything. It dries sweat quickly but it does hold water if you plan on doing any backcountry laundry. I'm 5'10'' 140lbs and wear a medium for a slim fit with enough room for a thin base layer.

What do you want to do, climb, run, ski, hike, go to dinner, anything? Well this fleece seems to always be on me, always. My favorite piece of clothing. Very stretchy and breathes with the best of them while keeping you comfortable and warm.

Nice base layer, and good fit. I wish it had better wind resistance to wear as an outer layer. Overall a good, versatile pullover.
