R1 Stretch fabric insulates, wicks away moisture, and lets your head breathe to keep from overheating. What is the difference between the Medium and Large? I found the hat size chart on the patagonia site but does it apply to this piece? is the large longer or is the head-circumference different between the two???

Neil, the large R1 Balaclava is slightly longer, and has a bigger head circumference as well. The hat sizing chart is fairly accurate for this too.

I am a balaclava connoisseur... Love to use them in the winter and they are always in my summer pack for cold nights under the stars. This is the best one i have come across. The fabric is so nice, and it fits many head shapes and sizes. Nice long neck blocks cold wind and snow. Great face protection...

Unfortunately, we do not currently have any of these on vendor order so there is no way of knowing if/when we will get more.
There is a chance that we may order more next fall....maybe the newest model.
Keep an eye out for them next season!

Hey David,The best thing is to jump on "chat now" and work with those folks. They'll be able to look up if there are any of these on order and if there are they can give you an approximate arrival date for them. That way you'll get the most accurate and fastest information.

this balaclava is great when riding your bike in cold cold temps. very warm and fits perfectly. definitely worth it!

I generally don't like balaclavas. However there are some days when its either hit the bar, suffer frostbite or cover up. I have owned three balaclavas and the first two were too bulky or became wet very quickly. This balaclava is light, comfortable and quickly sheds moisture. Fit easily under my helmet. I am wearing more than originally expected. Highly recommended.

A worthy addition to any gear chest. The material is is soft and stretchy so the balaclava feels nice and conforms to your head, neck, and face. The longer length of the balaclava keeps wind from making its way into your jacket. If the full protection of the balaclava is not needed, it can be pulled down to expose your face, or pulled back to expose your entire head, all while remaining very comfortable. I've never owned a neoprene or fleece balaclava, but I can't imagine it any more comfortable than the R1 by patagonia.
