The Patagonia Women’s Primo Down Jacket is serious about every aspect of winter riding—weather protection, warmth, and breathability. Welded seams and waterproof nylon fabric block moisture so you don’t have to limit your puffy to clear-sky days, and ventilating mesh panels suspend the 700-fill down liner so you won’t overheat on tough mogul runs (air circulates between liner and shell). Snap the powder skirt, stash your MP3 player in the insulated left chest pocket, and pull up the lightly insulated hood.
I am looking at purchasing this coat but I am nervous to order it online. I have tried on several womens down filled coats and they never seem to be long enough in the torso or arm length. I am 5 11' and have a medium build athletic frame. Therefore, I have had more luck with the mens small or medium.... but I like the style of a womens coat better... is this a good coat for my build and size? Also, I am leaving to Nunavut in two weeks, will it be able to be shipped here by then and if it doesnt fit can I return it and get all my money back?
Hi Jill, Backcountry does an incredible job with shipping, and depending where you are in the US you should have the jacket in just a few days. I'd be pretty confident in the arm length for you, and would think torso length will be ok as well. Patagonia ski jackets tend to have good length for both measurements. Hope that helps! Hope you have a great trip
This jacket is really expensive, and I bet it would be warm but it just wasn't special. I got the medium because Patagonia usually runs pretty slim but it fits more like a 12 so it is totally unflattering. The down is really nice but you could probably just zip in the down sweater into a shell and get three options out of it. Oh - I got the black, so maybe the other colors give it a little more pizazz.

I am always cold but this jacket is really warm. The only drawback is that I should have bought black because the white is seriously difficult to keep clean. Somehow I don't pay attention (in a rush to get skiing) and rub up against the truck and dirt city. I have tried wiping a light mix of Woolite and water on the outside to get the dirt off, but it is not a great solution. Other than feeling like pig pen on the outside couldn't be more toasty warm on the inside. It fits great, if anybody has any suggestions for a quick wipe clean I'll take it.
This jacket is super warm (which is why I bought it being from Canada) but where it's worth the money is how it's put together. First - pit zips keep you ventilated. But it's also quick dry. I did a few BC hikes in it and was sweating a lot. Flip it inside out and it'll dry over a coffee break.
I am 5'1" tall and 100 lbs. I wear bulky sweaters in the winter to stay warm (because I am always cold!). Will a small Primo jacket fit with bulky clothes underneath without being too tight/constricting? I'm debating between a small or a medium and I know that sometimes the Patagonia jacket size runs smaller/tighter.
Nicole, Small should fit you ok if you're going to layer, the sleeves might be a touch long though. Honestly the Primo Down is so warm you really don't need to layer much more than a base layer and maybe a lightweight fleece underneath, even if you run reaaally cold.
I just bought this jacket in black and LOVE it. It has a nice cut for the women. It is actually cut and will easily transition from ski slope to after skiing! The only complaint that I have is that there is no goggle cleaning cloth but.......
Trust the reviews!! It is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. We have an indoor ski facility here and I always freeze when we go - far colder than on the slopes and I have skied some crap conditions. I was so warm in this jacket that I had to open the pit zips and skied without my gloves. Unbelievable but true.
I have to admit - I choked a bit over the price. I even left the tags on for a few days. At this price I wanted to be sure I LOVED it. After the inital test drive - I think this jacket will be worth every penny.
I am going to Mongolia in January and need to replace my old Rab down jacket. I am deciding between the Patagonia Primo Down jacket, Mountain Hardwear Subzero SL parka and Mountain Equipment Cho Oyo jacket. Does anyone know how these would compare in warmth?
Sarah, The Primo Down Jacket combines a medium weight down jacket with a fully waterproof 3 layer shell. So for pure warmth there are warmer pieces out there, but neither of the two you mentioned will work as well in wet and nasty weather as the Primo Down.
Awesome Jacket!!! I highly recommend this jacket! It is very comfortable and warm. Also, it has a feminine fit and isn't too bulky like many warmer jackets tend to be. I am 5'11" and this jacket was long enough for me. If you live in a cold climate, this is the jacket for you!
This jacket is great. Super cute fit for the ladies, fits over the helmet (hard to find!), and is filled with goose down. I am always a cold person and I thought this jacket would do. I kept buying and buying different ski jackets, but always just ended up wearing my marmot goose down jacket(not good when skiing through trees = torn jacket). When I found this jacket, I thought this would be the end of me constantly trying different ski jackets, but I still find this jacket COLD. I have to layer up. I am still considering to this day to return it and just buy a shell... Fit is true to size. And length is great for not showing any ass or getting snow up you when eating it hard (powder skirt too).
Love this new jacket! As an avid skiier, I'm always looking for the warmest gear that's not bulky. This jacket has answered my prayers. Fit is awesome..XS maybe a litte short unless you're very petite. Haven't had a chance to rip it up, but IT'S WARM and I can't wait!
They either entered the price wrong or the white/cyan is a discontinued color or one that isn't selling well. Either way, if you like the white/cyan color, I'd go for the good deal you can get on it.
I have this jacket in white and surprisingly, it is very easy to keep clean. We were tailgating at the mountain and I got bbq grease all down the front of my coat. I got home and didn't have time to scrub it, so I quick put it in the washer machine just so that it would have some soap on it! I took it out of the machine, expecting to do more work - but NO, it was super clean! You can dry it too - just put tennis balls in the dryer with it.
actually a little heat in the dryer from time to time after washing will help redistribute the DWR coating and restore the waterproofness of the shell.
Well white is obviously the toughest thing to keep looking clean, but the exterior material is nylon which should repel most stains and dirt. After all, it is waterproof so you don't have to worry about liquid stains too much, and it should wash up nicely as well. Just remember not to dry it in the dryer using any heat. This will ruin the waterproofing.
This seems to be rated high, and lots of comments on warmth. I'm looking for a good jacket to take with me to Russia this winter (and I'm from California...) and looking into this jacket, along with layers and of course some food thermals. This truly good for warmth?
yes, you will be warm...but why pay $600 for an all mountain jacket with all of the ski features when you would be equally warm in just a $200 down jacket--like a TNF Nuptse or Patagonia Down Jacket.
The Primo Down Jacket is one of the warmest jackets out there that also offers a fully wind/waterproof and breathable shell. I've worn my Primo Down in some really cold and nasty conditions, and it keeps me warmer than any other jacket I've worn. If you were to layer a Patagonia Merino 3 Zip Neck and a either a Patagonia R1 or R2 Jacket under this you would be very, very warm.
This jacket is really expensive, and I bet it would be warm but it just wasn't special. I got the medium because Patagonia usually runs pretty slim more...
I am always cold but this jacket is really warm. The only drawback is that I should have bought black because the white is seriously difficult to keep more...
